I knew this before, but I failed to heed a previous lesson.
When cutting hot peppers, wear gloves. The oil from jalapenos does not wash away with soap. It is alcohol solvable, but it easier to wear disposable gloves. Why this advice? I just rubbed my eye an hour after cutting the peppers up and I don't have expletives enough to describe what I am going through.

I enjoy cooking with chilli and have had to learn the hard hot way.
This one day, I almost took up religion after not wearing gloves whilst cooking with chilli and having to use the mens room. I can look back now and smile at how I must of looked with a bag of frozen peas inside my pants. "Withdrawing in disgust is not the same as apathy"

Try washing your hands with shampoo. It might be able to cut through the oil.
