Account not found?

I have been playing PoE for the past 2 weeks and I went on vaction for about a week and didn't sign on. I come back and when I got to sign on, with the very same exact saved login details, it says that it cannot find an account with this email. I tried then sending an email giving me my password thinking I put it in wrong, but it said that it couldn't find any account associated with that email. I now lost my character and everything I had. I just made a new account using the old email and it worked, but no character? What Happened??
