Cleave vs Sweep

So I see a lot of people choosing Cleave instead of Sweep. Obviously there are a few weapon differences, but axes can use both, but I still see most people saying they are using Cleave.

My question is, why? Sweep allows to attack full 360.. so I can gather up a few mobs and, with the help of resolute and endurance charges, sweep the entire group and clear them all at once (if 2 hits guarantee kills them, 2 Sweeps guarantee kills the entire pack attacking me). I can even use a Decoy Totem and then just stand next to it and attack all of them.

But to repeat any of that with Cleave, it will take a lot more attacks.

Use Cleave with 1H's, Sweep with 2Hs, weapon type limitations by rule. I don't see a reason to use Cleave with a 2H Axe other than preference.* The only think I can think of is perhaps there is a greater chance of having the animation interrupted with sweep due to the lengthy weapon animation, so maybe someone would want to use cleave on that basis.
