Sick of Diablo III so here I am.

Everyone saying that you can't be hacked in D3 is misinformed.

Blizzard left a huge security hole in D3. Whenever you get an achievement in D3, your client broadcasts your client ID without going through the authentication server (everything else goes through it to make sure it's YOU doing the action and such). As a result, gold-farming outfits were able to intercept client IDs and get direct access to everyone's accounts that played in public sessions while they were sniffing for packets. Blizzard has remained quiet on this, but has been issuing roll backs. In the mean time, many players are without their gold and/or items.

Please do some research. This is big news that people have been talking about. Mainly because Blizzard said DRM was to prevent hacking - only their always-online-DRM has exposed everyone to account insecurity.

I really like how this game looks. I enjoy how all the classes are custom and no item restrictions. I only wish the game had a more unique feel to it; dont get me wrong I LOVE how the game looks but I wish items and armor looked a bit more different. I know this is a diablo clone and im okay with that in fact I really like that part about it! if they made items look a bit more unique I would love that. I dont know what it is everything is kind of generic-looking.

LOL XD

I find this hilarious if true. Although it does suck to all those who are having to deal with this problem.

I'm sorry, but if your account was 'Hacked', it was you being silly with your account information.

The same thing happened to me with WoW once.

'Hacking' doesn't even really exist when talking about games. The only time accounts get stolen or looted is due to the owner not being careful enough.

That said, welcome to PoE.
You'll have a great time with it.

100% true. If you dont give your password to anyone etc , your account is safe in every online game.

I dont belive some hackers hac your account .. milions of people buy diablo 3 , and there was only like...max 50 "stolen" accounts so far..oh sorry , not stolen :P shared by owner, in stupid way.

You get bored with PoE fast two ( dont get my wrong game is very good ). Its only beta with 2 acts..kill same monsters all the time.. same locations..
You gonna end cruel and get bored , but we all wait for official realse , not beta ;d

I've worked in account security for a major online service (can't be more specific, NDA) and you are being incredibly naive. I would be absolutely shocked if a single person who's posted here has honestly taken 100% perfect security precautions since they started using computers. Sure, maybe you never do obvious stupid things like writing your passwords down, reusing the same passwords on multiple sites, or sharing passwords with others... But can you tell me beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are sure every computer you've ever signed into any service from didn't have any malware running in the background? Surely you've never even considered signing into any service from an insecure wifi network or public computer, right? What's the longest you've ever gone before installing security updates to your OS, browsers, Java VM, and other vulnerable software components?

There is no such thing as 100% security online. It's a myth, and a dangerous one. By all means, take reasonable security precautions at all times to mitigate the risk, but you should never operate under this presumption of invulnerability. You don't have to install a malware-laden application or type your password into a phishing site to be compromised these days, and even the best network security specialists can't guarantee 100% protection against even all known vulnerabilities, let alone unknown ones. If you think that most people who aren't totally clueless have nothing to worry about with online account security, then I would bet any amount of money you aren't one of the handful of security nuts actually doing everything you 'should' be doing to be as safe as possible (which is to say, STILL not 100% safe).

Sorry for the semi-off topic rant, but it both annoys and frightens me to see how overconfident many reasonably tech savvy people are. Just because you've never had an account compromised, doesn't mean you have never been vulnerable to attack.

I think I came off poorly.

I think PoE is the better-looking game by far. I just don't equate a game's "polish" as how pretty it looks. I take polish to mean how smoothly it runs without errors or issues. How refined, fine-tuned, things like that.

Like in music engineering, the "polish" and even "sheen" is usually a reference to the mastering process, which has nothing to do with the mix levels, eq balance between the instruments or even what they are playing.

GGG is a band I connect with more, and playing a song I prefer, with cooler-sounding instruments and all that good stuff (translation, looks and plays more to my liking). But it hasn't been digitally mastered yet.

Oh, you weren't talking about the Polish? As in, the people of the central-European country?

j/k

I understand the distinction you're making, and agree; I just latched onto the discussion about PoE's game art 'cause I had that experience, and had to wax rhapsodical about it.

Sure, PoE is far from done, including sanding, stain and a couple coats of lacquer (to apply another metaphor), but it's clear what it's gonna look like, unless the devs decide at the last minute simply to slather the thing in puce and mauve paint. =^[.]^=

I just now had the thought ... I hope GGG keeps periodic backups of accounts and characters somewhere completely separate from the main servers, just in case there was some sort of attack here and accounts/deletions were automatically saved on their server post-attack.

Ah, I gotcha. Yeah, PoE is so refreshing to me in that department. Even Grim Dawn, which also looks promising, doesn't hit me as feeling as "right" in the visual presentation. I mean, it's still really early, so ya never know, but this game just HAS it.

The only thing I really think could be better would be more night-time outdoor areas as opposed to daytime ones. Twilight Strand is too short nd linear, and Fellshrine Ruins and Dark Forest just aren't enough, hehe. Maybe a day/night cycle would fix this, as well as them seeming incongruity of being in a dark town then suddenly a bright wilderness area, but I'm not sure if they're considering such things.

Boy, I'd love it if GGG had the spare resources for a detailed day/night cycle, or even one with random weather! But that's a LOTTA polish for an ARPG, and I'll be satisfied without.

Make a heckuva Cash-Shop item: All your created instances have time-cycles and weather! =^[.]^=

DRM has always existed to prevent piracy. It's much more important to ensure that nobody pirates the game, than to worry about people like me who won't pay 60 bucks for a game with no single player.

Only in this case, it also prevents people from playing the game *their* way with mods or cheats. If they want an uber item right now that they don't have, they can't use cheat codes, they have to use the RMAH. RMAH is pay-to-cheat.

Online-only wasn't, isn't, and never will be about protecting the users. It's about protecting the profits.
