Dark Forest Performance

I got a Radeon 6850, which is a pretty good video card given the fact that I'm gaming at 1920 x 1200.

It works perfectly in ALL areas of the game.

The only area where I do have problems, and SEVERAL other friends of mine have problems is The Dark Forest.

For some people, with 4870 or 4850, the performance is dismal (15-25 FPS). For me, it's usually >30 FPS but sometimes drops to 25 FPS.

Does anybody else have this sort of issue?

I had that issue but I just switch off Shadows for that and Alira's Camp.

Correct, Alira's Camp is also a performance offender, but nothing like the Dark Forest.

I believe these areas' graphics code should be optimized to allow a wider range of video cards to play the game properly. Other areas clearly show that this is possible. There are shadows in The Forest (first area of Act 2) and that works just fine.

I have this same problem in Act II areas in general with a 5670. The rest of the game runs smoothly but these tree shadows murder performance. Really hoping they can do something about this because the no shadows option looks really bad.
Same for me, Act 2 outdoors zone killing my pc :| and its not a bad one

Worst fps ever were in a big party before Alira's camp with firestorms and so on. Probably 5-10 fps.
