Poll - How much HAVE you read before playing?

Half makes me think they should put a 'delivery time' on access to the game.

'Thank you for showing interest in Path of Exile! You will be granted free and unlimited access to the game within 24 hours as we activate your account.'

*smirk* Then everyone gets to experience the same...joy and anticipation we CBers felt before we could get our keys.

Would sure as hell slow down the spammers, too. :)
Warhammer 40k Inquisitor: where shotgunning is not only not nerfed, it is deeply encouraged.

Dogma > Souls, but they're masterworks all. You can't go wrong.

I was right about PoE2 needing to be a separate, new game. It was really obvious.
Got alot of help ingame when i started with all the questions i had, and also read alot on the forums..
So now i spend a fair amount of time answering many of the same questions i had..
it's all about taking and giving..i took, and now i give.

Move de sync from de bathroom to de kitchen for better flow!
crisis solved.
More reading than playing for me. I am able to browse forums during work hours but have limited playing time after work.

We'd have a lot less chat spam and forum spam about the same things again and again if players would do even just a little reading.

This. I think this has alot to say about society these days. I admit even I get lazy and don't want to read things sometimes. Like for instance, I'm holding out on reading the letters of exile till they come out with voices so they can read it to me :P

That being said, I was a closed beta person, but at the time I didn't really take the game as seriously. Even though I did spend a good deal of time researching the passive tree, skimming through the forum and studying the different items. Now in open beta I think I read everything in the forums and pretty much absorb every tidbit of titilizing information I can get my hands on.

I think your poll though might not be too accurate. I say this because those that read the forums and are into this game enough to be like us are going to sit down and find this and respond whereas those that ask the same questions in act 1 normal every day without taking a little initiative on their own (even though I know it's an innocent question, and I'm happy to help them when I can) probably aren't going to see this because they either don't know about the forums and how valuable they can be or they just don't want to.

Either way I totally agree with op this isn't a sit down and jump in kinda game if you want to get far. This game requires months of planning, farming, learning, reading, and listening. That is part of the excitement about this, besides playing of course.

Nothing. Just jumped straight in late closed beta. Probably why my first few toons sucked so hard.
We tested it extensively
Some guy with a moon-kiwi told me about the mechanics thread by Malice, That day I stopped asking questions and started answering them in general chat. Thanks Charan. :)
I dunno, I was checking shit before I got my key for a bit, not enough to not suck but enough to have some sort of clue what game is about/how stuff works.

The rest is natural selection of stuff I thought might work and did not. Wipes helped with that as well :P
I was so happy open beta started i didn`t read shit, but played like 5 hours in a row.
Tbh. i haven`t red up on mechanics a lot since then also...i actualy think the game explains a lot just by paying attention, Orb/Skill/Node-describtions are pretty clear and simpel.
The only thing i realy looked up was armor, cause i got my ass beaten all over the place with 70% armor in char-screen and thought armor would follow the same formula resistance does.
Hi.*

Never read the mechanics thread.
Asked many questions.
Have a friend who i ask for Price checks ( the guy who made the best 6L plate off all time.. )

Completed merciless ( all boss solo frist time no matter what. )
Playing in Default helped.
I never read a single build guide.

End.

When i found PoE it was love at first glance. Waited for open beta, got my download and started playing without knowing anything else than the main informations on the website.

I never started to make it a kind of "work" instead of game, just whenever I had a question I consulted the forum looking for information. My witch is purely and spontaneously selfbuild, did not copy anything, just doing what felt right. Now I am on my way to kill Vaal in merciless mode hopefully solo, like all other bosses before.

I´m little bit proud of it, because I´m elder person and started with PC games only about one year ago.
