I Challenge Chris Wilson To Actually Play His Own Game!
I think it's kind of absurd to assume Chris doesn't play his game. He probably does a fair amount of taking endgame characters out for a spin even. He does have less time for it than some of us no lifers most likely, but so does everyone. I think you have to try and remember that he is a different person than you.
Not everyone enjoys or takes away the same things from the same experience. From what he said he wants a game to be about the journey rather than the destination, that's why he wants it to be special when a player beats some uber boss and not the default that every player should expect. Thing is I agree with him, the only thing that makes me unhappy about that vision for the game or playing it that way, which I do, is the league rewards are not designed around the average player. I'll never get more than 2 rewards a league at the rate it's been, I came close to 3 on console during legion but crashing in the big legion fight (forget what it's called) ultimately made me throw in the towel. Maybe most players are not supposed to get all the rewards, that's fine, but it is the source of friction with the game for me and maybe others feel the same. I feel like the challenges are telling me I'm supposed to beat the game every league, while I and apparently Chris Wilson would rather the game not be designed that way. Maybe I'm misrepresenting what he said somehow but that's what I took away from it anyway. |

" For me as an ssf player the lack of journey is the problem, since you basically have no progress from yellow maps besides getting lucky. (Yes, I'm that guy who picks items from the ground) This leads to the point where I spend tons of time in game and if I didn't get lucky with drops and "crafting" and unable to kill the boss it feels unfair (not even talking about sirus off-screen die) and I usually leave the league at that point. If I get lucky and kill the boss it didn't feel special since mostly its not something I did, but rather I just got lucky with drops which allowed me to survive long enough to learn the fight and do enough damage before portals gone. With all the content PoE have, you can't target farm something to progress your character, just same rng with different tag on it. There was harvest, but it got removed. Like, last league I played for the whole 3 months, farmed sirus to get saviour for collection and got only 1 awakener orb from the whole thing, so I can make only 1 double influeunced item per league probably with crap mods outside two I need. This doesn't sound very encouraging. As of trade league its even worse for my taste, like I have to buy the whole char to be able to do stuff. Reminds me of old D3 days where you could buy some weapon, put ruby in it and resell with higher dps tooltip lol, and then flipping rings after they fixed tooltips, what a gameplay. |

I agree that there's a progress wall after yellow maps for SSF play. It's very difficult to upgrade stuff at that phase. That's when most people turn to trade to get their "end game gear". Random drops at this point are just not good enough. Chaos spam isn't any good. Bench crafting helps, but is really insuffcient.
I'm ok with that. The choice to play SSF comes with barriers. My real hope is that PoE 2 and it's restructuring of gear will make that barrier a bit easier to overcome. |

I think it's important for there to be builds in arpgs that barely rely on gear for these types of progression issues. That way you are trying to get lucky to unlock other/better builds instead of waiting around to be able to progress at all.
If they keep nerfing minions and other less gear reliant builds I'm not sure what solution if any there will be to playing ssf and expecting to get anywhere. |

That's silly. Games like this that don't rely on gearing up are utterly boring.

D2 has a pretty loyal fanbase that does not think it's boring and I play skele necro every time I start up again because you can beat the game with nothing equipped if you want. I use it to get some gear going for other builds that I like to play more and are faster/stronger than the skele necro.
I don't see the issue with that, I think it's a feature. |

" As I see it, PoE is a little bit too dependant on gear, while D2 fits into the other end of the scale. For a lot of people, progressing your character to do harder content - to get better gear - to keep progressing your character, is key in games like this. Progression is really the bread and butter of ARPG's, but the game should push/encourage you to always improve your gear. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

I feel like the game is basically over when you get to maps based on some of these comments and id actually agree
Map bosses are just basically harder story bosses that you already killed and the way the map system works you need RNG or currency to buy progress if you dont wanna grind it I mean this could account for the things like harvest and that he doesnt want perfect and thinks like mid tier is best (isnt that around when the story ends?) I dont know if i believe that chris plays like most others i think he just makes a char gets to like lvl 26 then says the game is fine and for the most part i guess thats true If getting to maps is the end then i guess the game is fine after that i feel like every char i make needs more damage vs the harder bosses and more defense but most other stuff is not to bad damage wise... you still die here and there sometimes |

" So what if Chris wants masochist mode? Big whoop. Are you complaining about all the players who went SSF, HC, SSFHC, or Battle Royale? What other people enjoy doesn't affect what you get to play or enjoy. Or, you just simply didn't understand Chris on Baeclast, (if you even watched it), and automatically assume that's what he wants for the game and players, in which case you're wrong Creator of Dementophobia
Name, reward, art and flavor text all my idea, very satisfied with outcome |
