With the disappearance of attack Dodge in 3.16, I'll have to find another layer of defense to replace it.
I don't know yet if I'll try to get some block, some spell supression and whether I'll convert it to Spell Dodge with the reworked Acrobatics.

In the meanwhile, I have worked on an improved setup with more DPS.

I've removed the Crest of Desire helmet and the Hands of the High Templar gloves : they were very expensive and actually felt more like luxuries. The Crest gave me a level 28 Plague Bearer with 68% qual. Nice but not worth the high cost of a perfect roll (I actually bought a bad roll in Ultimatum league and was lucky to hit +8/48 on the first divine).

Instead, I've chosen to be pragmatic and to do simpler choices :

* The Rat's Nest


Speed, speed, speed !
I also love the fact that it reduces the char size : now, the Viper is tinier and deadlier !
A good old Starkonja would also fit well.

* The Embalmer


Dirt cheap, thematically fitting and very good.

* This Void Fang was crafted by just spamming Essences of Zeal for attack speed.

2 APS guaranteed. I stopped when I hit some phys dmg, and then crafted chaos DoT with the bench. Simple, cheap and deadly.
(It's a Hunter item but I couldn't get the poison DoT mod.)

That was quite a challenge tbh. But I've won all 20 waves !
It's the encounter that showed me that I lacked DPS, after which I've changed the stuff as I've shown above. Still, I was able to down Kosis and Omniphobia. They just had more time to suffer ;)

I will probably rework it and improve it a bit, but you have the Masteries for claw and poison.
This PoB is made with the Mahuxotl's shield, which won't be available in league. I'll make another version with the Apep's shield.

Glad you're still working on this build! I played this a few leagues ago in Heist and had a good time. Good to see it looks viable in 3.16.

this looks so weird and so fun, i love these strange builds, looking forward to seeing if it works as a starter for scourge

I league started in Ultimatum with this build and was eventually able to complete t16 encounters. And that was arguably a tough league. So I have reasons to believe it will be viable in Scourge.
Plague Bearer + Profane Bloom is a solid combo for farming.
On top of that, we have two good masteries now : +20% max value of Plague Bearer, and 300% inc poison dmg against non-poisoned enemies.

I haven't had time to publish my last two videos for 3.15, where I was doing Uber Atziri and then Uber Elder.
I will probably record these fights again in 3.16, so that they don't feel immediately outdated.

In the meanwhile, here is a first demo in 3.16 Standard. It's made like a parody of these cliché Hollywood teasers for an epic saga. It's also a way to show why the Pestilent Viper is truly...

Yes, it's viable. It've briefly tested it in the past.
For 3.16, a quick simulation in PoB says you would need this setup :
Cobra Lash + Added Chaos Dmg + Unbound Ailments + Cruelty + Void Manipulation
+ Multiple Proj for farming
or
+ Vicious Proj for bossing

And Dying Sun flask.

You may want to test Spectral Helix. I think it can be really strong, because you will explode monsters in a large area and the dmg for each poison will be higher.
Helix + Chance to Poison + Added Chaos + Unbound Ailments + Cruelty
+ Faster Proj for farming
+ Void Manip for bossing
