Black Screen
Hey,
I read the stickies and did a search but couldn't find anything like this. After a while of playing my screen goes blank. I can still hear the game sounds in short, cut-off intervals. I have no idea what triggers this, it appears to be random. Graphics settings do not affect the outcome and apart from this issue the games performance is flawless. These are my specs: AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ Geforce 8800 GT Win7 32 bit 2GB RAM On very rare occasion I've had this happen to me while playing other games, but with this game it happens all the time. | |
Check your drivers are up to date, and make sure your card temperatures aren't getting too high! You may have to download a free program to monitor this.

Yea, I'm getting the black screen too and I wasn't before. It started happening maybe only a few days ago. Computer is definitely not running hot or struggling and this has never happened with any other game.
Changes to the graphics options seem to have no effect. And everything is up to date. |

Processor: Intel Core i7 2.00GHz
RAM: 8GB Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M It's installed on my SSD and I had zero problems running the beta client until about two days ago. I had played it in the morning, then played it again later in the day while tethering my cp to my phone's connection. It blacked out so I figured it was due to a weak connection, but now that I am back to high speed connections it still blacks out. I reinstalled and that seemed to work as I was only playing in lower resolution, but it just blacked again, albeit after a longer extent of time. Pretty disappointing really as I had just gotten done telling all of my friends how great the beta is, now I can't play it >.< |

Is vsync on? If you play in a window, what happens?

This has just started to happen to me as well. After about 20-30 minutes of game play the screen slowly fades, shutting the monitor down completely. I can still hear the background crackling fire noises, but that is it. Have left it alone for 2 hours and still the same blank screen. Reboot computer and everything is fine. Then it happens again. Love the game to death, but it's starting to drive me slightly crazy. I lowered all resolution, etc so it was as bare -as I could get it.
My system: Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz RAM: 3.00 GB Just adding my voice to the thread. I will continue to play regardless of this hiccup. Thank you, -Joseph |

Hey Chris, thanks for the reply,
Yes I tried it with and without VSync. Strange thing is is that the game was running fine, no overheating or anything until a few days ago. I noticed that my laptop now crashes with all games which is quite upsetting. It leads me to believe that maybe my GPU is dying or something like that and playing PoE every waking minute after losing interest in DIII has not helped! Hahaha Anyway, to be more descriptive, my GPU idles at around 42C (maybe a little warm?) and here are a few situations and the results: AC Power High Screen Brightness 100% Processor Allowance GPU heats to close to 90C Black screen after about 5-10 minutes Battery Power Medium Screen Brightness 100% Processor Allowance GPU heats to close to 70C No black screen at all AC Power Low Screen Brightness 100% Processor Allowance GPU heats to about 80C No black screen for at least one hour, then I stop because of concern that 80C is still too hot under load I'll be trying weakworkZ's solution later today, thanks for that ;) But I wonder, are my temps too high? An XoticPC support guy told me those are normal temps but I'm not really knowledgeable when it comes to computers so I worry... Thanks everyone for the help. |

" 70C, 80C and 90C seems all pretty hot to me. My brother his laptop usually runs around 40-45C, same as my desktop that I am using. My old computer used to go to those temperatures and I had to put a fan on my computer just to keep it from overheating (especially in the summer!). I would recommend you to download the program 'speedfan'. It monitors the temperatures of different parts of your computer and also the speed of your fans. With this last tool you could check if one of your fans would be malfunctioning. http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php Hope this helped you a bit, because I can't imagine a day without PoE anymore!
