[3.8] The Raging Maiden - Phys Cyclone DW

Scions do it better

The Raging Maiden 3.8 cyclone impale

This guide will cover the basics of cyclone dual-wielding paradoxica and using the impale mechanic.

Note for 3.9
This build should be very cheap in 3.9 with everyone playing Bow/Wand and
to a lesser extent Necro. The only problematic point might be getting a watcher's eye with Impale. I will league start this build and probably try Assassin/Raider to be safe.

Table of content:

1-General Gameplay
Spoiler

This build is capable of clearing all content (I only need to find Aul to get the video proof of that).
It is not a specialized build. It is not the deepest delver, the fastest mapper or the best boss farmer.
It is a well rounded build that can tackle every type of content with ease while behind very relaxing
to play and easy on your fingers. It won't be as passive as a minion build though.
We use cyclone as our main DPS skill, we jump from pack to pack with leap slam and we can shatter enemies
by pressing a flask button. Simple, efficient but most of all satisfying.

2-Gear breakdown
Spoiler

2.1 Mandatory items
This build has no mandatory items and can be played with anywhere from 0 to full uniques.
That being said, the version I am currently playing and am comfortable with has a good mix of
uniques and rares to keep things within budget. A watcher's eye with +2 impale stacks is highly desirable while
being really cheap this league and probably next league too (depending on elder's accessibility).
A soul tether belt and its companion Glorious Vanity is strongly recommended for survivability though.
2.2 Cyclone's mana cost
Cyclone doesn't have a big mana cost but negating it has a lot of advantages. We have 3 main
methods to achieve a 0 mana cost cyclone. Each having their ups and downs.
Method 1: Fossil crafting
This method will take up your body armour slot.
There are 3 levels of optimization for this method as there are 3 very desirable mods you can get with fossil crafting.
"Attacks socketed in this items have -15 total mana cost" Any armour will do. Budget version.
"Socketed active gems are supported by level 1 maim" Any armour will do. Recommended version.
"Socketed attacks have +x% to critical strike chance" Elder body armour needed. Luxury version.
Method 2: Through Corruption and Vivinsect
This method will take up one of your ring slots.
Vivinsect is a ring that is often overlooked but it provides some interesting stats for the build.
You can socket your Pride aura in it if you can deal with the 10% extra reservation and the lack of enlighten or use it as
a utility socket for portal gem.
Up to 25 attributes, particularly intelligence for the int requirement of Infused channelling.
A veiled mod which can be life/mana/%increased damage/attack speed/some res/crit chance and multi/minimum charge to list
the most desirable ones.
But the most important stat of this ring is the -2 to total mana cost of skills per corrupted item on you. Wearing 4 corrupted
items will be enough to negate cyclone's mana cost and will help with your movement/utility skills mana cost too.
You can get up to -27 mana cost of skill with that ring alone.
Method 3:
This method will take up anywhere from 1 to 3 affixes on jewellery and/or your anointment slot on amulet.
Elreon jewellery can roll up to -3 mana cost to channelled skills. The notable "Lucidity" on the tree can also be anointed to boost damage and
reduce the mana cost.
2.3 Smooth cycloning
When cycloning you will be significantly slower than when walking unless you wear the new unique boots The Stampede. I did try to build around them and it is definitely
possible to do so but with my suggested setup you will be faster at walking and cycloning like 90% of time. The boots are worth it before you get unnatural instinct
and if you are on a budget and have capped resistance through other pieces of gear. A lot of conditions to fulfil for what is mostly QOL.
With that out of the way we can discuss how we spin faster to clear faster. The bulk of our movement speed will come from our CWDT setup
linked with berserk and withering steps. Phase run is also okay but I will talk about my choice of gem links in the dedicated section of the build.
Champion ascendant gives us some move speed and so does unnatural instinct. Overall we oscillate between fast and really fast with the occasional downtime on empty maps.
2.4 Required stats
Reaching 212 dexterity shouldn't be a problem but intelligence can prove a little harder to get.Try to get a good roll on your belt and allocate
a +30 node on the tree if necessary.
Capping accuracy is trickier, you can use Hyrri's amulet or get accuracy on your gloves and run a lower level precision to ease the mana cost.
You can use an ice golem but I would not recommend war banner as dread banner is overall superior since we rely on impale a lot.
Another great way to deal with accuracy is the combination of Flesh&Stone is Sand stance with the fated amulet "The ignomon".
Blinded ennemies cannot evade your hits will give you a lycosidae on your amulet instead.

3-Links and gems
Spoiler
3-Links and gems
3.1 Cyclone
Cyclone + Impale + Pulverize + Infused channeling + Rage + ???
The last link depends on you, I strongly recommend Spiritual Energy Leech once you get the belt and jewel combo.
You can also slot in brutality for elemental reflect maps. Melee physical damage is also good, so is Maim if you don't have the chest.
No fortify either as we get it from the Champion ascendancy.
3.2 CWDT
Cwdt lvl 1 + lvl 4 berserk+ level 2 Withering Steps + Golem
No blood rage here because we get it from our paradoxica weapons but if you don't have it you can slot blood rage here.
Berserk is an amazing gem and synergizes very well with rage support and our ascendancy (berserker). You will immediately notice it when this gem is triggered.
You will be harder, better, faster, stronger as the song goes. You deal more damage, take less and move around way faster. Our choice of ascendancy allows us to keep
those very juicy buffs for much longer. Withering steps is great for the extra movement speed and the extra survivability; it is overall better, albeit more
defensive, than phase run as we already phase through ennemies with cyclone.
3.3 Movement skill
Leap slam + EMS + Blood Magic + Faster attack
3.4 More DPS
Ancestral warchief + culling strike + multiple totems
3.5 Auras
Pride + Dread Banner + Flesh&Stone + Enlighten
You need enlihten 4 to socket blood and sand, forego it until then or take some mana reservation nodes on the tree.
We usually play on sand stance for the extra survivability it provides.
If your resists allow it you can go for a pair of Skyforth for power charge generation and more importantly
the reduced mana reservation.

4-Ascendancies
Spoiler
4-Ascendancies
4.1 Recommended
Berserker (rage, more damage, leech) + Champion (Fortify, impale, movement speed etc...)
4.2 Alternatives
Slayer for phys reflect, assasin for elusive, raider for frenzies are all okay but Champion/Zerker is the best balance between bossing and clearspeed.

5-Pantheon
Spoiler
5-Pantheon
Soul of Solaris
Soul of Shakaris

6-Why Scion?
Spoiler
6-Why Scion?
We can get the rage mechanic from Zerker (and the leech) and the impale from champion. We have access to the godly jewels slots with
Triple meek for budget or double meek and unnatural instinct for wealthy patrons. This league my jewels have been bad but we have also access to
jewels slots all over the place and Paradoxica weapons really shine with good jewels.
