Will the skill gem change not be active until POE 2 release?

The one thing that always made me lose interest was the way the skill gem system was, but I really like the POE 2 route much more.
Is there any information on if we'll have to wait until POE 2 release for that change to go through? Last bumped on Nov 20, 2019, 8:21:52 PM

It won't be changed until PoE2.
