[3.8] Cobra Lash Assassin | 3.5m+ DPS | 2.0m+ Shaper DPS | Build Compendium | Guide

Introduction

Hello, this is my first guide. I have encountered many a player that have no idea where to go with the new update for the poison Assassin, other than copying Mathil of course ;) . So I've decided to compile a few builds fit to different playstyles and could maybe help some people.

There are two types of weapons to pick from. You can choose between using a claw or a dagger. With dagger's you can run Bino's for the poison proliferation, though you can also run a rare dagger instead for more dps since Bino's has fairly low APS. The claw variants generally do more damage, but do not have poison proliferation. The poison proliferation will provide for better clear, so pick your poison :)

Pros and Cons

Pros:
-Fast clear speed (For a non-HH build)
-Safe with 60% attack dodge and high life pool
-Good bossing with gem swap
-Can do reflect map mods and cannot regenerate life/mana
-Skill tree is "complete" at level 90
-League Starter Viable! Very cheap to get started

Cons:
-Cannot do no leech maps(without mana flask)
-Ramp up playstyle not for everyone(though this is a pro for me)
-Though doable, not the fastest late game boss killer

Gear:
Spoiler

(6.6k HP and 2.1m Shaper DPS, 4.1m general DPS)

----------------
You can see my gear is not the greatest and I can do a lot for my dps/hp. I am running the claw and shield tree but I really only use my shield for hard bosses. I am usually running around with two Wasp Nests. There are no required uniques. You can play this build completely on rares. However, Wasp Nest's dps is very worth its price point and Lioneye's Remorse will probably give you the biggest boost in life other than a really good rare shield.
----------------
While there are no required uniques, Coralito's Signature will probably be something you really want to have. It will save you some points on the passive tree for Perfect Agony. But, until you have Coralito's you can just run any diamond flask and spec into Perfect Agony on the tree until you get one.
---------------
Its been brought to my attention that some people have mana problems even with the leech node in the claw wheel. I've never experienced any problems but you could find a chestplate with -mana for skills or craft them onto rings. You could also get mana gain on hit from your jewels.

Pantheon:
Spoiler

Major- Lunaris
Minor- Gruthkul
These are up to your own preference.

Tips and FAQ?:
Spoiler
1.You can remove the mana flask whenever you feel you don't need it anymore. Replace it with Atziri's Promise or whatever you want.
2. Run any golem you'd like. I only ran my Stone Golem because my gloves are corrupted and only have 1 red socket.
3. Until you can get a Temp Chains on-hit pair of gloves, you can either drop Skitterbot and run Blasphemy-Temp Chains or just keep the Skitterbots and save up for a pair of gloves.
4. Skitterbots are ran for the shock and chill.
5. Until you get Coralito's you can just use 5 points to spec into Perfect Agony on the tree.

Nice guide, lots of options to go for! :)

I have just an itty bitty beef with your damage numbers - you list clear dps, not boss dps, which in my case when picking up a build matters much more, since if you know you will do 2 million boss dps you will clear the content just fine. :)

It was a little disheartening to check the "boss is shaper/guardian" in POB just to see the dmg go down on all variants I looked at... Still good damage in most variants, but not what I thought I'd be getting. :P

ETA: edited out my edit, I'm dumb. :P

You can go two Wasp's Nests, Wasp's Nest and a Rare claw, or two Rare claws.

Duly noted. I have updated all of the builds to show the Shaper DPS first. Also, poison damage can be hard to calculate on bosses. Assuming you can kill the boss, you would have a 1.1x more damage multiplier from culling strike. There is also the low life damage multiplier we get from the ascendancy. For the Wasp's Nest and Lioneye's Remorse build, if Shaper was on low life your damage would shoot from 2.1m to 3.2m. Thank you for your input and let me know if you'd like to see anything else!
Nice guide! Just curious, are there any videos?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's right to tick the shock effect in PoB settings. Unless explicitly stated, all non-hit shock effects are 20% more damage against an enemy which means skitter bots only give 20%. PoB calculates shock as 50% more, so the numbers will be slightly inflated.

Also another minor note, how are you applying 30 poisons recently to Shaper for example? The attack rate on the Bino's/Rare dagger PoB is 5.17 meaning max of 20 poison stacks applied recently if you constantly attack. I could just be missing something, but other than that, I like the guide; many different options are made available and each has its pros/cons.

Currently I do not have any recorded but I may upload some soon. If you'd like, Mathil has been playing this build (the bino's and rare dagger version), so go check his vods and I think he has a youtube video on it now.

I think it's safe to assume that you will be fighting adds and have an average of 30 poisons applied per second in an Elder or Shaper fight (Elder more so). I can't calculate the damage you'd have at every phase so I just put 30 as a safe average but you are correct. Against a single mob then you'd cap at 20. Also, about the shock. I'm not sure how it works either but the damage numbers from the enemy at full life and low life aren't calculated either, so I think that if they were then it would be similar to the 50% shock bonus.
