Let's just scrap the Atlas
It's gotten too bloated for it's own good. Having to do specific maps puts too much strain on the idea that trading isn't mandatory and must be done often, and it utterly destroys the idea of sculpting your Atlas to only do the maps you want. Let's just go back to the old system without it.

I wouldn't scrap it entirely, rather the concept of dropping specific maps.
Why so? Mapping has become such a core concept which progression is tied into, as well as very easy to do so that it's a bother to uphold in the current state. With the amount of side-content present it feels like we need to grind for maps to grind for further unlocking content which we grind in to unlock the actual thing we want to do to grind in there to get to the good rewards which we need to grind several times to get the specific drop in that. Feels bad man. GGG balance is like getting a pizza which is burnt on the sides, raw in the middle and misses the most of the toppings.
Then upon sending it back you get a raw side, burnt middle and enough toppings to drench everything in grease. Everything fixed but still broken. |

I would be happy if the atlas bonus is actually a bonus, and not mandatory number in order to see normal map drops. Then you don't feel like missing that 1 white map and 1 yellow map is fucking you over.
Then again I've not read any strategies on the atlas; apparently there are shaping strategies that let you run the same map over and over, if you erase some maps (or many) from the atlas. Of course I have 0 intention of running the same map 1000s of times; I'm not a robot. As to why those are tutorials from completely external sources, fuck if I know. Not even league challenges teach you that. Maybe if the atlas mechanics are easier to comprehend without refering to guides, then you won't consider scrapping it. And if the game isn't anal about droping maps. “We are the race of flesh, We are the race of lovers.” Last edited by Frostride#6705 on May 3, 2019, 11:24:12 AM

" Exactly, reward players for doing content, not punish them for not having it done, that's a good design-choice in general. " You won't have a lot of choice. To properly sustain T16 (which there are basically 5 viable maps, guardians + your eldered map) you need to pick one which has yellow and white maps around, then unshape the guardians so those don't drop... which would lead to only no sextants as you can't sustain pure-red sextant rolling permanently, then run those over... and over... and over again. Why? Because without sextants your return drops to nearly nothing. If you want to do it with any other tier of maps to still be able to run guardians you'll have to ignore all rare-drops, period. There won't be anything useful there. Purely picking up currency, more maps and divination cards. Fun, right? Gives a lot of 'choice'. " Exactly what I'm saying, it#s ridiculous to have any game not explain fundamental concepts to KEEP PLAYING the game in 2019. " But it is, hence the mechanic IN IT'S CURRENT STATE is garbage. GGG balance is like getting a pizza which is burnt on the sides, raw in the middle and misses the most of the toppings. Then upon sending it back you get a raw side, burnt middle and enough toppings to drench everything in grease. Everything fixed but still broken. Last edited by Kulze#3236 on May 3, 2019, 11:52:14 AM

" Here's the thing though, it's not the Atlas mechanics not really. It's everything that was added to the Atlas afterward that ruins the Atlas mechanics. It's the elder mechanics, and the Atlas objectives. It's the Atlas drop restriction mechanics combined with those that cause the problem. The Atlas was great, it's everything they added after that Atlas that made it bad. The choice here was redo everything since Atlas of Worlds, or just dump the Atlas. IDK why anyone would suggest scrapping the atlas, you can totally play the game as if the atlas isn't around if you want, so why scrap something that people have learned to play around and enjoy?
Random encounters can still happen in your shaped\elder map if thats all you care to run. https://youtu.be/T9kygXtkh10?t=285
FeelsBadMan Remove MF from POE, make juiced map the new MF. |

Casual players are punished by Atlas completion bonus, at least the first 3 weeks of the league.

" That's a terrible response, we need to player agency not less. Realistically yes the atlas is fine, they just need to fix everything else so it only operates within the atlas drop rules, and never ever ever try to force someone to do a map they don't want to. |
