This is what I use, I've 6 linked the chest myself. All the items cost 10-11 ex and just killed elder(3 deaths because I had 0 knowledge on boss mechanics), smashing t15 maps like they are nothing. 10/10 build would recommend.

What are the general tips for improving single target damage and avoiding one shots?

I failed 6x at catarina and 5x at elder with pretty decent gear.

I decided to let this build remain the way it is. I generally prefer my other 2 versions:
Elementalist Winter Orb
Trickster Winter Orb
Inquisitor Winter Orb

But feel that this version offers a different playstyle so I'll keep it this way.

Ive been following your build pretty well have put a few ex into it loving the damage but would CI elementalist also be equally as viable? How much would the skill tree change if i were to go that route? Anyways your builds are great ive played your essence drain solar guard spectres and many other builds of yours please never cease amazing me and creating amazing content for your fans!
The damage for clearing is more than enough obviously, we don't need to specialize at all like other builds for that purpose.
Since we use greater multiple projectiles, dying sun is not mandatory so I replaced it for mana potion instead to not rely on the curse ring for mana sustain.
Also for end game content, the pandemonius is mandatory so that leaves us to find by ourselves 114 dexterity and 46 strenght if we use the same gems skills at the same level (20).

I had to find a trick and came up with crafting mostly, had to gamble some annulment orbs destroying items in the process.
My gear costed more than 22 exalted orbs finally, I switch for boss gems and items (no bisco and cast when channeling ice lance).

I tried to emphasize the energy shield as main focus but it made me dying tons of times because my resistances were clearly not high enough.
The damage is absolutely not an issue but instant deaths happen because of the stats priority in nexus is a common occurrence.
So I decided to use impurity of lighting there and the vaal too.



I chose solaris instead of lunaris because in nexus maps with maps mods such as critical chance + critical damage and random elite with mods powerful critical damage can 2 hit / kill you from offscreen so most of my deaths were because of that even with high resistances and 10 000 energy shield. Impurity of lighting and vaal impurity of lighting + solaris and switch ring if chain mods allowed me to never die again there.

I think the dying sun provides a lot of damage with the 2 projectiles since they shotgun anyways. Mana is not an issue with Atziri's Splendour. Pandemonius isn't necessary to be honest. For a few ex you can grab a great amulet that covers your attributes, boosts ES, and isn't far off in terms of damage if you can get a T1 crit multiplier. Your ring should definitely have assassin's mark on hit. With 8700 ES i breeze through maps and can do Uber Elder with 1-2 laggy deaths.

since i missed that stream and it is kind of hard to find the relevant part in the VOD, would you care to shortly summmarize your thoughts on the build regarding changes vs no change

"Well, I decided not to change the Occultist crit version as it is very functional as is whilst the other ones are converted into Avatar of Fire styled low budget end-game builds that works as league starters.

There are multiple niche mechanics in place for that variant hence why there's a new video up as well as a thread for each of the different ascendancies."
