15 European gambling regulators unite to tackle loot box threat

Hopefully some good will come out of this and eventually gambling boxes will be made illegal or at least highly regulated and treated as gambling.

"The regulators stated games providers must "ensure that features within games, such as loot boxes, do not constitute gambling under national laws". This indicates more countries will now examine whether loot boxes can be classed as gambling."

It really only applies to p2w kind of shit, whereas MTX in POE is strictly cosmetic.

Nope, it applies to cosmetics as well. Check it up with the example of Overwatch.

No. It applies to all boxes that you gamble your money on to get something. This article is mostly about 3rd parties sites that sell in game items from popular games and how that is a loophole that makes gambling boxes from popular games actually legally defined as gambling. But it is also about how this topic will hopefully make regulators crack down on gambling boxes in general. Hopefully.

Lootboxes are absolutely a "grey-to-black-area".

It's all about money. They make more money through lootboxes. And why is that?
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.
Because people are dumb enough to buy them.

Good. Lootboxes are gambling and should be regulated as such.

So, a good glass of wine should be prohibited because of alcoolics?

Regulated. Not prohibited.

Just like how alcohol and gambling are highly regulated right now.
It was obvious from the start that loot boxes exploited gambling disorders specially on underaged teens. There simply was a legal void that now will be regulated. It sais a lot from companies that adopted this kind of marketing model.

From a capitalist perspective the did a great job. They will be able to live in a mansion in the caribean when they retire.

From a moral perspective i send giant fuck you to Blizzard, GGG, Valve, EA, etc for turning their game's customization into a gambling shitshow. And hey, Valve at least had the steam market and GGG always included loot box skins to the shop after 3 months.
