Can Elder despawn?

I spawned Elder on my Atlas and killed 3 Guardians so far. Was wondering if i stopped clearing shaper influenced maps around them, would the Elder & guardian despawn? This is all new to me :)

The problem is i play SSF so i can not just buy the maps where Elder is :D

The game uses an internal "elder counter".
When elder & his guardians just spawned, or when a guardian was just defeated, the counter is resetted (0).
After each completed map (any), the counter is incremented (+1).
When the counter reaches 20, there is a chance for them to vanish, after each completed map.
