Pendulum of destruction

Elementalist's pendulum of destruction does not seem to have a buff icon anymore.

It never had one.
Remember, suffering is convenient.
That is why many people prefer it.
Happiness requires effort.
It is not a Buff, therefore there is no Buff icon. This is intended behavior. (And as Haruka says, it has always been this way.)
Hey there.

Pendulum of Destruction first applies a buff that grants increased area of effect for 5 seconds. When that buff expires, it then applies a buff that grants increased elemental damage for 5 seconds. This effect cycles indefinitely.

You seem to be right though. It was the conflux buff that had an icon alternating between the effects.

Strange that pendulum does not have this.

Note that the wording on the wiki is not an official GGG or ingame quote, the word "buff" here is just a common gaming term that readers instantly understand.
If pendulum is not a buff then what is it? And more importantly why is it not a buff?

Just asking out of curiosity.

I'm not sure if GGGs official wordings are public. It might aswell be called buff. The more important part is that there are effects from the passive tree that are "always active" and don't get icons. The Pendulum switches between two effects and GGG could probably introduce icons for it, but currently those alternating but permanent/skilled effects don't get icons. Icons usually indicate things that you personally activated. You could start calling one "buff" and the other "passive effect", but it just comes down to what wording is useful in describing the game.

A Buff is a term with a specific meaning in PoE, it is not just anything that positively affects your character. The biggest mechanical difference is that the effect of Buffs can be scaled by "increased Buff effect" modifiers, such as found on Ichimonji. Also see Mantra of Flames.

Buffs always have a green border buff icon in the status bar at the top of the screen. If something does not have an icon, it is not a Buff. It is just an effect that directly modifies your stats.

The wiki often confuses the common usage of the word "buff" with the mechanical definition of a "Buff" as understood by the game. Sucks, I guess. The indication by an icon is, to my knowledge, bulletproof.
Thanks. Never payed much attention to stuff like this. I noticed now that elemental overload doesn't have a green border either. Good to know perhaps.

It's pretty weird that the alternating conflux has an icon but pendulum does not despite them doing the same thing.
