Microtransaction Gifting

I can't understand, where the peoples see something "cool" and "awesome" in this post? Really? Maybe someday, when i can exchange tons of duplicate mtx with other peoples i will say "awesome", yeh. But not today ggg, not today.

I don't mind that. It's how they survive. As long as it's not pay to win, they're sticking to the moral grounds. But 'microtransaction gifting' is a horribly misleading title (it's almost clickbait, something I never thought I'd see GGG stoop to) and the clause 'we can't actually facilitate gifting from your stash/GGGold reserve' is quite a ways down the post, almost in fine print.

I find this disingenuous. Not impressed at all.

I was all geared up to do some Kris Kringle shit.

Now I'm feeling deflated that I can't be generous from what I own, and instead would have to use new money to be generous in PoE. Which is starting to piss me off, because sorry but my GF, family and friends come first there. And it all feels a bit too commercial and coerced. I am mtx-rich, let me damn well share that. Don't force me to spend even more to get the same results.

Spoiler
And yeah, being who I am, GGG would probably do mtx and GGGold xfers for me. But that's not the point here.

Hey man, you wanna say they listen to us on the forums, that's fine, but their track record reads different. Lots of high rollers like yourself absolutely hating on their recent mtx based decisions. Lots of people shitting on the harbrinbger packs, lots of people shitting on the mtx "rewards" for twitch, lots of missteps that were repeated since the purple mtx having lots of issues with launching. These are the people who help keep the lights on they're snubbing here.

I mean, even Chris himself has said that "once we get them hooked with a supporter pack, we're basically tied into their income" during an interview, or something incredibly close to that. They might be better with collecting data on the forums and using the aggregate to better balance the gaem, but on mtx based things? They do not care because they feel they'd loose too much money. This is despite that China has different policies than everyone else in that regard.
can i organise a gift for myself for christmas day so i have at least something to wake up to

I kid you not, he embedded a hyperlink inside the "caring thank you" of supporters to redirect them to the POE SHOP to spend money.

Fn Unreal.

I don't see how embedding a link to the store, inside a thank you post, is not also morally wrong. That's scummy as hell.

It's like standing there with a donation bowl in front of you as they're telling you how thankful they are for your support. That's some classic manipulation and greed.

POE is like a Evangelical Megachurch, and Chris is the televangelist preacher needing your support money so he can buy a 7 million dollar private jet to spread the word of Wraeclast.

I love Chris to death and I know the feeling's close to mutual but he says some really dumb shit in interviews from time to time. Unlike forum junkies such as myself, his actions speak louder than his words. I've learned to take a lot of what he says in interviews and on streams with a grain of salt, which is fine because there's a hell of a lot of salt around here to choose from.

'Hating' is too strong a word for how I feel about things. When all's said and done, they've a business to run and how they do so is up to them. If brazenly shiny mtxes, catering to the high end no-lifers, listening to reddit more than their own fora is how that works, so be it. And they're doing fine financially so that's hard to criticise. Just in this one case, this very particular case, I feel they've let us down regarding that spirit of generosity I do expect from GGG given how much of the game they give 'for free'.

This sort of mtx gifting doesn't encourage generosity or goodwill. It just asks for money. And while I couldn't care less how many people 'quit' over the 3.1 changes (see my signature), there's no denying the patch notes and 'Path of Nerfs' stirred the hive into a frenzy...and to ask for honey after doing that is kinda stupid.
Really only playing Path of Exile because GGG haven't made the game I'd rather be playing. It'll do...for now.

This is the most blatant cash grab I've seen GGG make. Ever.

And that's coming from me.

Tip from a gifting pro, GGG: 'real friends' don't play PoE. They try it and then quit and wonder what sort of fucking masochist you are while they're off playing genuinely fun games casually. The only people PoE players know who also play PoE are less 'friends' and more 'fellow addicts'. And while I might be inclined to buy them other games on Steam, there's no real need to buy them anything here because, as mentioned, they're fellow addicts and already have what they want here.

This is incredibly poorly thought out on your behalf. And the timing is terrible.

Disgusting, and they are trying to censor anything they can to hide it :/
So cool of you guys to encourage rmt in a way you said in the past was not going to happen. Ever.

But then again ever since I heard Chris about the drop rate shenaningans I knew you'd cave in more and more.

Idea is nice and all . Encouraging rmt in your own game isn't.
It's interesting how the most bitter tearful hand wringing about this is coming from people who have no supporter packs. I mean look I get it gaming is often a hobby of the unemployed and the college kid, and parents basemented 40 y/o child. I get that most of you live in a world where providing for your family by making money with a business, means you're an unethical "sellout" this is an attutude I also shared when I was a teenager and thought every band that got more commercial was "selling out" after all you probably never paid any bills or bought any groceries. It's super fucking easy to stick to your principles when you have your parents house and credit card to back them up. But GGG is a business that closes up shop the moment they stop making money.

GGG is a backwater of outdated monetization strategies, mostly due to the hard core gamer audience not liking "unethical pay 2 win". Yet here they are getting torched ANYWAY. Most of the industry MMO's and other Online games are already allowing directly trading items from the cash shops for in game currency. This has the effect of bypassing the gold seller RMT, and letting the developer make the money that was being made by RMT botters. Yes it means the people with Jobs are paying the no lifers for their farming, in effect it's RMT. RMT that already exists rampantly in POE, we just pretend it isn't. When it's pretty much paying for 90% of those 200 exalt builds LOL. GGG to try and avoid the perception of "unethical" MTX is doing a manual gifting feature and all you idiots can do is cry about how unethical and sellout GGG it for putting a link to their MTX shop in a thank you letter...

[Removed by Support]

I for one wouldn't mind in the least if they allowed store MTX to be traded in game for items and currency. It would knock the RMT merchants out of the loop, it would swell GGG's coffers and we could all stop pretending it's not how most people are getting the currency to follow a 100 exalt wander build.
Every dissatisfied/jaded player who has an idea or a self serving vision of how the game SHOULD play, and how it SHOULD be balanced, views the Dev's who aren't doing THAT, as incompetent.
