Game freezes and kicks me back to main screen

Just like the title says.
doesn't seem to happen in other games. happens a lot since latest update.
I've tried to tuning the graphics down but that doesn't seem to be the problem since the game runs smoothly overall.

Intel Core i5 7400 @ 3.00GHz
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
8GB DDR4 RAM
