Gem experience

Just want to know if I've understood things properly. Please can anyone correct the following:

1. Gems get 10% of my xp, before any penalties are applied (according to the PoE wiki).

2. My level 90 char gets 8.2% of full xp in a tier 4 map (according to Path of Building)

3. Therefore when I do a tier 4 map, my gems should get more xp than my character.

Can anyone tell me why this isn't happening?

My suspicion is that gem xp is 10% of what I get *after* penalties, i.e. the wiki is exactly wrong.

Can you confirm what you've done to conclude it isn't happening? Gem exp resets to 0 every time they level, which may throw you off - you should be taking before and after numbers and subtracting to find the difference.

Wiki was right, conceptually at least, last time I noticed the difference. When I last leveled in higher level areas, my gems would level before I did without me dying, i.e. they said "You don't meet the (level) requirements," and this did not happen when I stayed within +/- zone levels that grant 100% exp.

If anything I would suspect POBs level difference formula is off.
