I think OP is talking about opening a single sac-frag in the device (which opens 6 portals, map style, to a corrupted vaal zone). You can also put sac-frags (and mortal frags, and pale council frags, etc)in the device with a map (1-3 different frags+a map, which I assume is what Shags here is talking about) which will add extra quantity to the map.

Na, I knew that dude. It's basically what I used all my spare sac pieces on. Well on tier 12 maps and above anyway.
