[3.0] Angryaa Spectre Summoner.

Watch me live at: http://www.twitch.tv/angryaa

Lots of people asked me for a build guide of my current Spectre Summoner in SSF HC. Well, here it is.

My character profile: https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/Angryafrican/characters
(Look for: ANGRY_NOTDEADYET). Note that I play SSF, so my gear is not as optimal as it would be in a trading league.
Your only class option is Witch. The Necromancer Ascendancy is uniquely suited due to the power of Mistress of Sacrifice and Soul Weaver. As with all my builds, they are built and tested in HC.

Gear:

Spoiler

The items for this build are quite specific, but very cheap. Keep in mind that all of these items are not absolutely necessary for the build to function, but allow it to get to a whole new level of power.

http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Bones_of_Ullr provides you with an additional Spectre and Zombie. Try get a 15% movement speed one if you can. Movement speed enchant from the lab is ideal here.

A +2 minion helm. This is important to make sure your Zombies are tanky.

Weapon:

http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Aurumvorax, preferably a one with a 55%+ all resists roll. With so many unique items in the build, this helps greatly in capping your resists. If you somehow have capped res without Aurum, you can use http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Advancing_Fortress for hp/es or https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Brightbeak
for very fast shield charging.

Chest:

I recommend picking up a http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Tabula_Rasa for early mapping as 6 link Spectres with Soul Weaver are very, very powerful. Endgame, pick up a https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Vis_Mortis
and 6-link it. Along with your Ullr, you'll have 4 spectres total.

Shield:
Finally, an optional piece of gear is https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Victario%27s_Charity combined with the Necromatic Aegis keystone. This shield provides immense offence power to your spectres due to Frenzy and Power charges giving different benefits to monsters. Read more here: https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Monsters#Charges

The downside of this shield is you lose a huge amount of defence. I would not recommend this in hardcore without excellent defensive gear in your other slots.

If you feel squishy, don't use a Victario's Charity. Use a real shield with real defences!

For Flasks, I recommend a bleed removal Basalt Flask for the 15% physical damage reduction, a Quicksilver flask with increased speed and reduced charges used and two instant or bubbling healing flasks. One of these flasks should have freeze removal, the other an animation flask for healing your minions. Finally use a silver flask with curse immunity for extra speed when clearing maps. On difficult bossfights/lab swap the silver flask for a third bubbling/seething flask.

The animation flask becomes very important for the survivablity of your minions in higher tier maps. Learn to use it well.

I also use a https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Bloodgrip
amulet. It doubles the amount of life gained from flasks for both me and my minions. This is very powerful and useful.

Endgame Passive Tree:

http://poeurl.com/bsPM or Path of Building Link https://pastebin.com/zMBMvm1j Jewels stat priority is Life > Minion Damage > Attack speed. Once you spec into Commander of Darkness, remember to factor in the additional 20% minion resists. Use one Unending Hunger in the north witch jewel socket. You only need one, and its fantastic for spectres. Minion resists are important for the survival of your minions, before you get Commander of Darkness you will want to run Purity of elements for your minions.

Gem links:

http://poecraft.com/gemplanner#v11.0a=o0C.0n2x1W.16=S1T1y.152f202_1S2O.1O=H14=N.0R2N0e0M.0c.0j.==

Vaal Discipline is used for no regen maps, breaches and to help out with regenerating your ES in difficult moments. It also helps with minion survivability.

Shield charge is used for fast movement and to grant fortify.

For your spectres, you can swap out GMP for slower projectiles on bosses for higher single target.

Triple purity auras make you and your minions very tanky vs all elemental damage as well as easily capping both your resists. This is much stronger than more damage via Anger in my opinion cause if your Spectres die its a massive loss of speed and convenience. The purities help a ton for this (not to mention saving your life!)

We use Solar Guards or Flame Sentinels as spectres. Frost Sentinels are amazing spectres but are so difficult to get in high level maps its not worth your time. My personal preference is Solar Guards, due to higher single target, longer range and greater tankiness compared to Flame Sents.

Solar Guards can be found in Act 8 Solaris Temple.

You want the highest level Desecrate for summoning Spectre corpses as possible.

Bandits: kill all for the extra 2 skill points.

The Labyrinth and you
Spoiler

This build does the labyrinth with ease. Just be careful with your spectres around poison dart traps, as they do full damage to your spectres and can kill them quite quickly. Best bet is to run through them asap and use an animation flask.

Normal: Go in at level 38+. This way you have plenty of hp and spell echo to help you along. Take Mistress of Sacrifice .
Cruel: Go in at level 60+. You really are in no rush to do cruel Labyrinth since the passive you take is low impact. Take Flesh binder.
Merciless: Go in at 75+. Take Soul Weaver.
Endgame Lab: Go in at 85+. Take Commander of Darkness.

You can go in earlier if you wish, this is what I did in Hardcore to make sure my labyrinth runs were as low risk as possible. It worked out well for me. Before you get the 20% all res from Commander of Darkness, you're going to need to run a purity of elements to help your minions deal with elemental damage.

Pantheon
Spoiler

Major God:

- Soul of Lunaris
Capture the Soul of the Lair boss to gain chain projectile avoidance. Now you don't need to worry about chain in maps so much. Before then and on non-chain maps, use Soul of the Brine King.

Minor God:

- Soul of Ryslatha
Very important for EB/Zo/MoM for consistent flask charge regen. Also great in the Lab. This is great QoL for a build with no life regen.

Levelling:
Spoiler
Go Freezing Pulse. Smash stuff with it till you're level 8 and have a Blue Blue Red linked wand. Make it a magical wand with a transmute if its not magical, then vendor it with a ruby ring and alteration orb to make it a +1 fire wand. Link Summon Raging Spirits with Minion Damage and Melee Splash. You can literally use this and only this to level all the way to the end of A10 with minimal problems if you like. The clearspeed really picks up once you get Mistress of Sacrifice.

SRS levels better if you pick up the 3 duration nodes near Scion asap, respec out of them later when you decide to drop SRS.

I ignore spectres until I get to Kitava in Act 5. In his Zone I will get Kitava Heralds and link them to Minion Damage, Spell Echo and Greater Multiple Projectiles. These spectres are tanky and have decent damage for leveling. I will still use my SRS wand meanwhile.

When I get to Act 8, I will drop the Kitava Heralds and get my end-game spectre, Solar Guards from the Solaris Temple in Act 8. When I do get Solar Guards, I will equip my Bones of Ullr for 3 Spectres, drop the SRS and instead run the Curse on Hit setup with shield charge and zombies.

Understanding Raise Spectre level mechanics; zone level matters. This is very important.:
Spoiler
The reason why summoning spectres from highest level zones possible is important is that the level of the zone you summon spectres from (in this case Flame Sentinels) matters a TON for making sure their hp and damage is good. Flame Sentinels from Normal and Cruel are too weak to deal with difficult boss fights and situations. You will want to get into Merciless Eternal Laboratory (level 68 Zone) for end-game Spectres.

Finally, if you summon Flame Sentinels from corpses with Desecrate, the Flame Sentinels level is equal to the zone level or the Desecrate corpse level, whichever is lower. This means you should NEVER summon spectres with Desecrate corpses unless you have leveled the gem high enough. For example, if you are in a level 68 zone, but your Desecrate gem summons level 5 corpses, your Spectres will only be level 5 and thus do almost no damage and die in one hit.

To target specific corpses when raising your Flame Sentinels, press the Highlight Corpse key (default a).

Finally, minions update their stats as you change gems/items. This means you can summon some corpses, remove spell echo, summon your spectres and then put spell echo back in and your spectres will get spell echo. This is convenient for allowing you to specifically target what corpse to raise.

There is a desecrate trick that allows you to summon high level versions of Solar Guards (or Flame Sentinels). Ghazzy made a video about how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwlOv5kuXIc&t=2s.

Places you can desecrate Solar guards:

Note: Map mod "Solar Fanatics" seems to spawn them as well

* Wharf
* Channel
* Plaza
* Shrine
* Collonade
* Shipyard
* Ghetto
* Ramparts
* Promenade
* Highgarden
* Arcade
* Graveyard
* Bazaar
* Castle Ruins
* Chateau
* Cemetery
* Arsenal
* Racecourse
* Courtyard
* Port

Prob a couple more.

Remember, without high level spectres you will struggle in high tier maps. Make sure you got a couple of maps spare that can spawn decent level Solar Guards.

Yes, if you D/C or log out, you lose your spectres. Yes it totally sucks.

Adjustments for Standard.
Spoiler

For non HC leagues, definitely use a Victario's charity with Necro Aegis for higher dps and clearspeed.

FAQ:

Spoiler
Q: Is this build beginner friendly?
A: I would not recommend this build to a new player. Summoner mechanics are complicated and the build requires specific items to shine. However, if you're determined and follow the guide, you can do this build just fine.

Q: Can I switch to using Spectres, Curse on Hit and Zombies earlier than Act 8 Solaris Temple?
A: You can but SRS is smoother, faster and safer until then. Kitava Heralds from Act 5 are the first good leveling spectre that won't die on you in my opinion.

Q: So I dropped my Purity of Elements aura cause my resists were capped and now my minions are always dying!
A: You've likely neglected the resists of your minions. You should have three Minion Resist jewels (preferably +10% each) before you drop purity of elements. Commander of Darkness from Uber lab gives another 20% and you also get 16% from Herd of the Flock. Low resists mean dead minions.

Q: Why Solar Guards? I like Evangelists/Revenants/Bleed Archers/Discharger spectres/Flame Sentinals/Frost Sentinls much more!
A: Solar Guards have excellent AI, damage and are easy to get in a wide variety of maps. After repeated testing, they prove to be number one in clear-speed and survival. You're welcome to play around and use whatever spectres you want. They all have pros and cons, I just think Solar Guards have the most pros and the least cons.

Q: Does this build really need X to be good?
A: Yes. Everything in the build functions and synergises well together. Tinker and change at your own risk. The vast majority of people who have troubles with my summoner guides do so after changing something about it. Only do this if you know what you're doing!

Hey Angry! Glad to have you back, loving the streams. Was wondering if you had a specific path on the skill tree that should be taken. like which nodes i shall go for first and etc.
Hi. Thanks you for the post. I am just wondering with flesh offering and Mistress of Sacrifice is for movement speed and cast speed or what exactly? Why is that taken instead of Soul eater? Thank you for your time.

idk if anyone else has answered this but you get soul eater from the unique jewel you socket in called "Unending Hunger Cobalt Jewel" it has a 50% chance to proc Soul Eater for your spectres basically going to have a 100% uptime depending on how fast you're killing.
Hi Angry, thanks again for posting an updated guide, loving your spectre builds since 2.4 first because I love spectres, secondly because your approach with necro is so alternative and funny compared to abused necro builds like aurabot, SRS and stupid zombies with Baron.

Personally on Standard I'm using an offensive setup with Scourge and Victario's Charity shield with Necro Aegis, you also told that Victario is the best choice for Standard, could you please post a Passive tree for those who use Necromantic Aegis keystone?

I'm asking this because at lvl 93 is not easy to go for Necro Aegis and also take all the mana reservation nodes needed to sustain Purity of Fire/Ice/Lightning + Discipline.

My best attempt to modify your Tree to include Necro Aegis:

Level 94 Necromancer with Necro Aegis keystone

The main problem is that you need lvl 95 for the last mana reservation node to include Discipline, is it really important/effective for minion defences?

Adding this because can be very useful for Solar Guards desecrate locations, credits to Illservia

Cheers, your fellow necro

First character ever and I absolutely love your build. I was just curious if you had any suggestions for rings, belt and hands? Or should I focus on finding a rares with the same stat priority as the jewels? I currently have all your suggested gear and it works great together so I figured I'd ask. Thanks for your time and the build! :D
How are you getting Endurance charges for the Immortal Call?

Pardon if the answer is obvious, haven't played in years but this character made me want to try again.
