Looking for a Gaming Laptop recommendation.

Hello!

I recently bought an Asus x550vx gaming laptop. It's a budget one, but supposedly it should be able to run POE just fine. And it does, up until it crashes, which happens within minutes. The whole computer freezes and all the fans go into overdrive and I have to forcibly shut the computer down with the power on/off button. All drivers are updated but there still seems to be some kind of compatibility issue. I complained to support and got sent a new laptop, same model. Same thing happens, but this time I'm able to play the game for a few minutes before the computer freezes (usually when changing zones). I've tried disabling hardware acceleration. Tried with low settings. Tried with turning off directx 11.

So I'm looking for a budget gaming laptop, in the 1000-1500USD/900-1400EUR/770-1160GBP price range, that someone can confirm works well with POE at close to max settings.

I would really appreciate all tips, as I'm going on vacation in a month or two and would like to bring this awesome game along :)

Sincerely,
Jan-Erik

I can only guess you haven't looked at new laptops anytime in the past 5 or so years. You understand that they now have the full desktop versions of processors and GPU's, yes? If you have a top end i7 and a GTX1080, it makes very little difference whether you put it in a desktop case or a laptop case.....

quite right.

check out asus or msi they make a lot of gaming laptops.

as i can play well with a graphics card from 2013 path of exile seems to be more cpu than gpu bound. try to get a laptop with a good cpu.

Go with NVIDIA graphic card. I had tons of problems with certain ground effects. I then downgraded my card terms of power and RAM, but the switch from Radeon to Nvidia made the game run buttery smooth. That Radeon card did run Skyrim on full settings with several graphic enhancing mods but did not handle PoE very well for some reason. My experience for laptop vs PC is that a PC can last "forever" while a laptop has a very limited lifespan. My highly unscientific thesis is that components cant handle the heat in a laptop, maybe due to higher temperatures in the small casing or whatever. I remember my last laptop running morrowind with mods just fine the first year, and nowdays it will overheat from D2. Popped it open and removed all dust, formatted and installed everything fresh but it didnt help. I think the problem is the thermal paste in the graphics card but I didnt bother to attempt to fix that on a laptop. Stuff like that is way easier to both diagnose and fix on a PC for the average joe.
I have good experience with Dell and IBM/Lenovo notebooks for at least ten years.

Dell was quite warm but could turned on for 4 days in raw with np.

IBM/Lenovo was much cooler and could be be turned on for few days as well. Nevertheless Lenovos cooling system has to be changed every 2.5 year as they intentionally malfunction.

For your budget you can freely buy one with 1060 gpu, Intel and ssd and look after display port, so you can connect it later to G-Sync monitor.

Dont buy Acer (never) and with Asus I heard good and bad, so I would avoid those as well.

Before buy, check in google keywords like: "overheating, warm, freeze during game, etc."

I'm quite happy with one of the (by now outdated) models from Schenker XMG. I can play POE at a steady 60 FPS with only occasional drops when too many particles force even NASA hardware to boil and whine...

https://www.mysn.de, they have an english button.
May your maps be bountiful, exile

I also hear bad things about the big brands, and very good things about the smaller national specialist brands that builds their own laptops. Except for Lenovo which everyone thinks are really good, havent owned one myself though. Last time I was looking for a laptop I wanted intel CPU, Nvidia card, full HD screen and SSD disc, no CD-rom or HDD, which I would assume is what alot of people want, but I could not find any among the big brands. They all had that weird 2/3rds HD resolution or gigantic HDD and CD-rom, or Radeon cards in them :s
