Why does a killed Legacy HC become Standard instead of SC Legacy?

I don't get why a killed HC Legacy character becomes Standard instead of SC Legacy. Is there a rationalization for this besides discouraging people to play HC? To people who want to stick to the new leagues; they may as well delete their character after it dies.

So they don't taint the economy and ladder of the sc league. Seems like the wrong mindset to play hardcore if you want to keep playing in softcore after you die. Why not just start in softcore if that's where you expect you'll be playing?

How do you figure the economy would be tainted when they both are fresh economies? Seems like the wrong mindset to make that assertion.

HC League would typically have a much less pool of items than softcore, given the fact people die and those items no longer exist in hardcore.

The point of hardcore has always been that death is more meaningful for you than for those outside of hardcore. This has traditionally used a simple implementation where dying results in the deletion of the character. If dead Hardcore Legacy characters were revived in Legacy League, then the consequences of dying would be trivial. What's the point of Hardcore at all, then?

If you die on a hardcore character, you cannot continue progressing through the challenge league you were in unless you create another character. That's always what hardcore has been about, and it's up to you to decide whether you're comfortable with it. If you aren't, that's okay.

I dunno. Maybe the cost of exalts in hardcore is usually substantially lower than on softcore? Anybody can make a hardcore dried lake farmer and farm up chaos orb recipes and buy exalts for half the price they are in softcore. And the point of the isolated economies is that stuff doesn't come in from outside the league.
