PSA: GGG sucks at balance

I for one don't really care about balance. I would like skills and gears to be very different from each other. It bugs me when GGG says like nerfing/buffing something to "keep it in line with other skills".

This is true for SSF but not for non-SSF.
I was talking about the "standard" game that involves trading.

Even trading isn't zero sum. You can play and get stuff no matter what.

They nerf items that are no where near "over powered". Don't expect a legacy item to be good.

The problem is that where you may see a skill or item that is not overpowered other players may know a way to come up with combinations and create an uber op build with it. There are just way too many millions of combinations for GGG to be able to know the effects of all possible combinations. No one can test that many so there is no way PoE will ever be balanced. Besides, if all skills were balanced such that everything was equal then PoE would instantly be boring and the challenge to create an uber build would be gone.

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

It's important that things are 'in line' though among similar skill types. Bladefall and Sweep, Ethereal Knives (pre jewel) and Ground Slam...these should have reasonably similar damage outputs versus each other. And the tipping point should be gear for the skills that use your weapon. A little worse when your weapon is bad, A bit higher damage than their spell counterparts when your weapon is top shelf.
I like how they nerfed life leech to 2% then gave 30% leech in vinktars. Derp.

Then they nerfed vinks to 1 charge and 20% and only one who can use it well (really well like perma is pathfinder) for everyone else meh.

Or Mjonir. Never was OP looking back at old vids kill way slower than new shit. And costed arm and leg to build. like 100ex. Meanwhile with a 20ex GG 4L whispering ice build you rape 5x faster.
Git R Dun!
Balance is the issue on the player. When a player doesn't know what to do, it will end up with relatively inadequate game play. "Meta" is to be adequate and it's not GGG's fault that a player does not play any of those meta.

GGG has been trying to provide those meta builds to be adequate at that point.

is this sarcasm or something ?
vinktars is used by almost everyone who wants to take full advantage of instant leech (aside from berserkers)

inquisitor vaal sparkers have no trouble sustaining vinktars for like 95% of the time

What bothers me about the balance in this game is that there are certain items that are just BiS with no real downside. Why use a Topaz flask when i can just use a Vinktar? Why use a Granite when I can use a Rumi? I don't mind uniques like Cospri's because they work in a niche build and that is great, but I really feel like having a unique items with no real downside is bad for the game. A really interesting unique armor that has no life/es and resists, but a cool mechanic? Yes please.

That being said, I really appreciate all the hard work GGG put in this game and I am curious to see how things will shift after act 3, since this was their goal all along (to have 10 acts).
The game need consistency not balance. It is utterly impossible to have a perfectly balanced game, but it is not so very hard to make the game consistent. The game is not even consistent yet between archetypes.
