Lag spikes most of the day (Australia)

Hey, Also having huge laggyness, Sydney Internode but I just tried calling them and got an automated "stuff is broken" style message.

Advisory here: http://advisories.internode.on.net/item/15835/ seems to point to the cause.

Hope that relieves some of the mystery even if it doesn't fix the problem.

EDIT: Beaten to it, damn

I am in the same boat as everyone here it seems. Thought it was my internet.

I'm in Melbourne with Internode.

On lockstep the game just freezes then speeds up.

Results below match everyone else:

Friend asked me to run it as a test comparison, no issues in game and not sent through the ip that people seem to have troubles with.

Also on Internode (Tasmania) and have been having same issues for a few nights now. Even other gateways are unplayable tonight.

Thinking this might be related:

That looks like it actually.

As a fix services that get you off the iiNet network before hitting that exchange will fix the problem. I would suggest services like lowerping or WTFast and selecting a Sydney gateway if you live on the east coast. Melbourne/Adelaide or Perth if you live on the west coast.

I've had this thread and the various winmtr results forwarded to the network guys.

Wait and see now. :(

Thanks for the help, regardless where it ends up, we appreciate it.

As far as iinet have confirmed, it is not on their end and there is no issues to the actual service. I live 200m from an exchange and NEVER get issues like this.

Furthermore, it is only on the Australian gateway for PoE. There is no issue with ANY other web service nor it is on any other game.

There is a possibility somehow iinet has something that causes it, but it looks like it is on GGG's side, possibly with "how they interact" with iinet isp users?

Just my two cents, cant play and getting me further and further behind in legacy :(
It is iiNets fault. Every other network can switch to the network GGG purchases their hosting from. It is only the iiNet exchange that is causing the packet drops.

Also any level 1 tech support you get at iiNet will have no idea what any of this means. Will be painful to actually speak to the right person about the fault, if not impossible.
Last night I rang up IINET tech support wanting to complain about this latency. I was on hold for 115 minutes (I timed it). What happened to their automatic call back service??
After my call was answered, the guy said I should try replacing the ethernet cable I use to connect with the modem. This is after I clearly explained the latency problem to POE. He said there was nothing wrong their end. Now its confirmed there clearly was. Rang up again tonight and I have been on hold for an hour again. Looking at the iinet network status website, there is no way to display national issues. You can only put in your postcode and it only shows local planned outages.

This notice on internode is clearly related -
http://advisories.internode.on.net/item/15835/

100's of people seem to be having that same problem of traceroutes dropping packets on the 218.100.78.56 hop. IINET tech services are a joke.

Edit: just found the apparent outage notice on the iinet site -
https://www.iinet.net.au/status/5198031

I was only able to find this link by looking at a whirlpool forum topic. Nice of IINET to make it hard to find their outage notices??

Yup Same issue here for a few days now, I rang IInet and told them sent them all the details they said they would investigate the issue and get back to me within 24 hours, I'll keep you guys updated with what happens but i have just been playing on the SG realm 100 ping is not that bad at all.

Honestly iiNet have been on the downward slide ever since they were bought out by TPG. This is the second major stuff up and their 'customer service' is a complete joke. Time to look for a better ISP I think and I've been with these guys for around 10 years.
I'm having the same issue. I know a lot of people have posted it, but just incase it helps.
