He was surprised with that shooting in the production was to have more materials for later editing. He was impressed with her never complaining about dozens of repeated shootings just for a scene. Anyway the TV series are excellent as well. Not as good cinematographically really, but considering the topics, the style etc, they simply have more time to cover the manga and delve deeper. | |

From the first, he didn't have no intention to work in the anime industry but he really loves movies and been interested in how it's actually produced.
Working for anime films as a director basically brings him only risks in health, mentally and financially especially when there is an original or previous works so that (I assume) he rather worked on the production system or style. As for 1st GitS film, he invited gun authorities and animators to a foreign firing range and wasted all bullets till they get enough confidence that the firing scenes actually works or observed female athletes to draw Motoko as a fighter rather than doll with big tits (he fought with those friendly "advisers" till the end to shrink her tits.) Then they drew the prototypes of characters and backgrounds for each scenes to ensure the quality and consistency rather than throw everything to bunch of animators. (it took only 3 months of drawing phase in the 10 months of whole production period, which enabled this film profitable for both audience, creators and sponsors. Considering the costs of "Akira" or "Innocence", it's worth noting.) In that sense, "Innocence" is one of the extreme which no one would have an opportunity sooner to meet these talents, engineering, sponsors, distributors and audience. Anyone watched the Live Action GitS yet? My senior co-worker already watched and enjoyed it. His review was that the movie has too much action compared to the original anime. Probably for general American audience so they wouldn't get bored.
