O M G . . .

Well, after seeing THAT (it didn't get imported with the Garena accounts, right? I really hope so) - any talk about breaking immersion in Act 5 is kinda about nothing. Using the visual style of a RL mass murdering totalitarian regime for an in-game mass murdering totalitarian regime makes sense. Unlike THAT THING. /shudder

yeah, i rest my case after getting reminded on that abomination.
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
We have so many things in this game inspirated in society/history, like medicine, engineering, technology, governments, religions, war, laws, human rights, slavery, prostitution, ethic questions, etc... is not like nazism theme is a problem or focus here.

Anyway, trailer don´t show specifically something about nazism. We have a high organizated army, many symbols (mainly religious), theocracy, slavery, corruption, etc. Many ideologies, armies etc. had/have this. Nothing is deepened, too.

If you believe this spread nazism influence, so be careful with maya influence, maybe sacrifices will be popular again...

Anyway, this game is for +18, nothing is making apology to Nazism (but I believe 3.0 have inspiration in this part of history) and we can be smart enough to think about it and everything connected (ethic, human rights, etc.), not just get away.

Hail Oriath ?
I have no problem with references and symbolism like that because that is what art is supposed to do. But I am pretty sure they wont use its potential.

It actually makes some sense that GGG lets the story go this way.

The Roman Empire, which is clearly the inspiration of the Oriath empire, was the inventor of fascism, they even invented the word and the fascis symbol of it so it makes some sense to associate them with Nazi Germany, eventhough nationalsocialism and fascism was and is not the same. The ideology of national socialism has all this biology talk about human races and their determination and all while fascists regimes normally don't give a fuck about biology and just care about a certain individual and the military having all the power. Fascism is more like an absolutist militaristic monarchy, just without the monarch having absolute power but some general or dictator instead.

The only sad thing in this affair for me is that the story line will just have another 'Fascism is bad because the 10 million deads of the Holocaust and Mengele experiments and because of the scary uniforms and symbols'-pointe and its better to be a mudering and robbing criminal than to be a fascist like moral. They could have thought of so much better. Just think at the 120 days of sodom, just think at warhammer, there are so many possibilities to view fascism from a different and more interesting and artistic angle than just repeating the boring ass moral of our history books.

And because that pointe is clearly bullshit. We in Europe know thanks to our former absolutist monarchs, that unlimited power to certain individuals can do better than anything else if the individual is a good one.

Maria Theresia, Frederick the Great, Peter the Great, Louis XIV and so on. Same for the Roman Empire with Caesar and Augustus. They changed and shaped their nations so much more to the good than all the shit we get from our modern day governements.

Did you guys know for example that all the significant social reforms like public healthcare, public schooling, safety regulations, 8 hours workday, legal unions and all that stuff came to our countries during it was ruled by a monarch or even absolutist monarch? Well its pretty strange that all those (significant) social improvements stopped by the time we became (((western democracies))), isn't it?

The problem is not the unlimited power, but it is the individual who has it. And thats why absolutism and therefor fascism isn't bad by definition. It's just risky and dangerous because the premise of finding a good indivdiual is so hard to fulfill simply because most powerful humans are bad or become bad if they are in power. Absolutist monarchies
did a better job at finding this certain individual via bloodlines than fascism did with its 'He who can fight himself to the top'-moral, because there was not one good fascist ruler in the last 100 years, but there were a lot good absolutist monarchs rulers during the age of enlightment.

I strongly believe this is a non-issue.

When I first saw the trailer, I didn't notice anything related to the nazi regime. I didn't find anything immersion breaking or unusual. In fact, I think it fits the established (while also evolving) art style of PoE.

After a few mentions about the new enemy models resembling nazis, seeing art from the upcoming art book and reading this thread, I do agree that we can draw a comparison. Sure, nazi, roman or whatever kinds of imagery could have influenced the art direction.

But WHY is this a problem? Saying this art direction does not fit PoE's art style is completely subjective. There are a lot of models and small details of the game that I don't particularly like either, but that is completely normal. It is simply impossible to please everyone's tastes 100% all the time, and I am unable to find any objective reasons why it's "worse" in this case.

GGG did nothing unorthodox with this art direction. It honestly baffles me why anyone would care so much about this "issue".

It's not about the artistic stuff for me, its about the moral of it.

First of all "Make the nazis get rekt, end slavery and save the world" is like the most common thing for a hero in modern times entertainment culture.

Second, considering the fact that you are basically playing a walking genocide in Path of Exile makes that setting seem pretty hilarious.

Breaking into Merveils home, killing everything including her kids and then killing her is fine because she became crazy?

Killing Atziri so all the sacrifices that her Vaal Servants have done WILLINGLY for her were for nothing just because we, who know and understand nothing of Vaal society, think that she is an evil person?

Half of the exiles got exiled for murder or even contract killing, the worst crimes a person can commit.

If I really think about it I am playing such a horrible person in Path of Exile that the point of the story really shouldn't be a black-white fighting (((the bad guys))) thing after all that stuff that happened and the premise of the game is pretty much mass murdering for loot and fun.

There are games like Manhunt That have this nice "you are scum and everyone else is scum now kill each other" setting that really does not give a fuck about anything and I really think it would fit better to Path of Exile than this 'save the world from the racis nazi slaver templars' stuff.

Edit: But yea I forgot to say that I am completely fine with finally going to Oriath and it will sure be a lot of fun so who cares.

Yes it did, Kelvynn. Yes it did.
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.
I read about 2 paragraphs and decided this is a complete joke whether intended or not

It's not ggg's fault that you feel insecure about the past and try to fix it by attacking a video game's character's armband design

My god I would hate to see the size of the forum post you'll make when you realise Wolfenstein exists

It's a video game, get your sjw bullshit outa here mate.
This has to be the stupidest post I have seen in a long time.

Using nazi symbolism in movies, games and entertainment in general has been a prolific since WWII.

You would have to be a complete idiot not to see this. And an even BIGGER IDIOT to write a large post about it.

Perhaps if you complain enough you can get done to poe what Disney did to Starwars.

A newer better Disney version of POE is available for you at disneymmo...

NS

Stupid thread. Its not nazis. Its roman. Uneducated people need to learn history it seems.
