A tricky question for a computer technician (could be software or hardware?) solve it if you dare

Is anyone Computer Technician or have a relevant experience with computers software or hardware?

I wanna ask how is it possible for a graphics card to lose memory and go from 512MB to 14MB? and what exactly is causing it.

How exactly do you know it only has 14MB available? Perhaps try a gpu memory test, google gave me CUDA: https://sourceforge.net/projects/cudagpumemtest/ ?

My guess would be your computer has integrated graphics and your graphics card is after market. Is the monitor cable connected to your video card or the default video out? Can you select between two different display adapters?

Does your graphics card have removable memory? Take it out and put it back in (with the computer unplugged of course)
For years i searched for deep truths. A thousand revelations. At the very edge...the ability to think itself dissolves away.Thinking in human language is the problem. Any separation from 'the whole truth' is incomplete. My incomplete concepts may add to your 'whole truth', accept it or think about it

Most modern OSs can't even boot with 14mb of memory. Maybe you should post your OS, and other specs. Is this a PC, laptop, tablet, etc? What specifically told you that you went from 512mb to 14mb?

To summarize the posts above: pic (screenshot) or it didn't happen. PrSc key is your friend.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
It is probably an integrated video card and someone tuned the amount of RAM shared between the video card and the O/S such that less RAM was available for the video card.
Computer specifications:

Um about that...i read hella of a lot forums and i wanna ask, how is this possible? i mean can i do it manually? to give my graphics an extra boost?

And yea its sticked on motherboard, its basically a chip, but i dont think its using memory of the system insted of its own. I used to work on this laptop and play heavy games with multiple mods. So i dont think it does not have its own memory, correct me if im wrong

i do have 14MB memory on graphics check the images on imgur from speccy you will see it says 14 MB, and i was not the one who actually saw that xD it was my friend and then it hit me.

I posted everything on imgur about my specs, temperatures and tell me if anything else is needed.

Device manager

How i did this, i first checked for drivers to see if they are working properly or if im missing anything because i format my 2 hard drives recently. So it seems drivers in device manager are ok, im not missing anything, atleast that what it says >.>

So it seems ram is still 4GB xD good good, it happens to me once to witness smth like not seeing the amount it should that's why i wanted to see if ram was ok...and it is :D

This tool btw is very usefull and i recommend it to anyone who wanna have a detailed overview of his computer, it literally tells everything :D and you can see temperatures as well, Ok so here you can see pretty much everything as well the graphics card saying it has 14MB

Someone said this to me from steam and tbh i didn't fully understood what he meant

Spoiler
hmm... discontinued low-en sony vaio, released in 2009...
http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/201402/14-019E/index.html

ps: speccy can out to txt, where you can remove your windows serial
and this model don't have official W8 drivers at all, unofficial drivers have problem

you don't find real technician's ansver - repair servicemans usually not repair sony vaio - it's discontinued few years ago
"donor" component difficult to obtain, and they are expensive
much cheaper to buy a more modern computer than to repair it

and if you build the desktop, then can save twice as

Will post more info and things im learning about the current issue so stay tune. Tell me if i forgot to post any information.

It's definitely possible that Speccy is giving false readings. It wouldn't be the first time someone got false readings from Speccy. And considering your hardware is really old, I think that could increase the likelihood of a potential false reading.

I've personally seen false readings with other programs. For example, HW monitor tells me my PSU's 12v rail hit 1.5v-ish on the 12v rail while gaming. I know there is no possible way that could have happened in reality because my PC would have shut off if that were the case. Later versions of HW monitor work fine, and that false reading no longer happens.

I've also seen glitches with MSI afterburner telling me I have a different GPU than I actually have, with the core clock and memory clock speeds being way off. This happened after updating my GPU drivers. Had to wipe/reinstall the drivers and do a wipe/reinstall of MSI to fix it. By wipe, I mean get rid of all traces of that said program on your PC including leftover registry entries.

What I suggest you do is uninstall speccy, wipe all registry entries related to it, then reinstall it. Even if it still gives you a false reading afterwards, it doesn't mean something is wrong with your laptop. Unless you're having serious issues with your laptop's performance, I wouldn't be concerned.

Video driver is missing or device can't be recognized, the testing program displays innacurate information as it can never test properly the integrated graphics, as a rule.

You got software issues to solve, or the descrete card is faulty. Don't count on wild guesses on the internet, there are no fortune tellers.

He's not using integrated graphics, his GPU is an Nvidia G96m.

Hmm i will take in consideration your observation, why you thing the information speccy is displaying are inaccurate tho? btw this tool was introduced to me by a computer technician -.-

I will get mad if it is a broken shit tool, i was using that little buggler for atleast a couple years, atleast it was advising me...

Thank you guys for the help, advice, and the little informations you're sharing with me from your observation it really helps me to examine things from different angles. And i do hope its a software issue because i dont know much of laptop's hardware i only opened 3-4 in my whole life so i dont wanna play it pro with my potato Goliath... :3

I hope at'least im not wrong about the graphics, the problem must be around that point. At first i was suspecting the hard drive buffers. but i was not 100% sure, i still believe it must have to do with the graphics.

And to be honest its not only path of exile, i cannot load any game.
