Wand build

Wanted to know what other people tried.

only two active skills seem viable

Frenzy and elemental hit, it also seems to lack aoe... so i was wondering what people did to try to remedy this.

I have an elemental hit criticals build. Due to the single crit roll for each attack, it's incredibly viscerally satisfying to trigger the crit and elemental status effects against every mob pierced by 5 projectiles from one shot :).

Increased Critical Multiplier would technically give more dps, but it's often just overkill against targets that I crit against.

I also use four curses. Critical Weakness plus:
>Projectile Weakness by default (for piercing crowds)
>Elemental Weakness for uniques and resistant mobs
>Temporal Chains for anything fast-moving that gets near me (I gave up on using zombies w/ the current AI bugs)

I have no idea what my dps is due to elemental hit not being counted at all, but it takes me ~15min to clear chaos solo.

Surprisingly, I have no problems w/ elemental reflect crowds. Due to the 25% hp reflect cap it takes around 10 reflected hits to get through all of my energy shield and hp. I do however sometimes die to super-fast aura mobs that stunlock me before I can cast temporal chains and run away.

Also due to the horrible base damage of wands. I tried taking all the wand physical damage passives (even the +50% one) and got stuck in early Cruel difficulty w/ terrible dps.

Then I mass-respecced to base everything around elemental hit and did fine. Used mana leech in place of my current multiple projectiles, zombies to tank, and no power charges until I got to Chaos. Projectile Weakness was my go-to curse for the chance to pierce until I got hex master.

I liked your build for the most part... but i wanted to change it up a bit.

i felt you were using way to many points for the crit chance/dmg

my build wont have as much crit dmg... and 40 less crit chance... but my wand damage is off the hook... now i just need to find one of those cruel wands :)

The best possible physical damage wand (cruel + conqueror's) deals 227 average base damage per shot. Stack all the passives you want and it still won't matter compared to 2000-3000 elemental damage per shot.

Even with 2000-3000 damage per shot, I'm relying mostly on criticals to kill mobs in chaos. I max out at 78% crit chance right now (with support and curse) and it just feels like I have a really powerful projectile that has a 78% hit chance. Any hit that isn't a crit might as well have been a complete miss for all the good it does me.

All i know is after some calculations my wand average wand damage would be 804 every hit with pretty quick attack speed. id probably have only a 70% chance to crit and my crit damage would be lower...

but i would be adding a ton of base damage so i wouldn't be so crit reliant. but still have a good crit chance. and 804 would be before the 8% wand damage per charge. 986 damage after the charges + the damage of elemental hit and the sick attack speed of wands...

and after take into account your crit damage and my own. your damage after a crit would be 9600 something with a 3.25 crit damage modifier with a 3000 base damage. my 3986 base hit with a 2.65 crit modifier would produce a crit of 10563.

As fun as cross-class builds are, I'm more concerned about playing a viable int wand user (w/ actual wand physical damage). It'd be silly if this new keystone made marauders and duelists actually better wand users than witches.

i guess one thing i might have missed on my calculations is when the 30% of wand physical damage is added as elemental damage is applied.

225 avg wand damage * 112% from wand passives = 477 avg wand damage

the tricky part i guess is when the next part is applied

if its before it is 225 avg wand damage * .3 of the element damage which is 67.5 element damage.

67.5 element damage * 2.24 from elemental weapon bonuses = 151.2

450 physical + 151 elemental is 601 damage

if the element weapon is added after the physical wand damage has be applied it would look like this:

if its before it is 477 avg wand damage * .3 of the element damage which is 143.1 element damage.

143.1 element damage * 2.24 from elemental weapon bonuses = 320.5

450 physical + 320.5 elemental is 770.5 damage little off my first calculation :s

the power charges would add 48% more damage

225 avg wand * .48 power charge dmg = 108 extra damage

bringing the first total to: 709
the second total to: 878.5

i was calculating max crit the first time.. avg crit would be.

2500 element hit + 709 = 3209. 3209 * 2.65 = 8503.85 avg crit (just going with passives w/o any other items besides a wand that has 225 avg dmg)
2500 element hit + 878.5 = 3378.5. 3378.5 * 2.65 = 8953.025 avg crit
2500 element hit + (225 * 1.56 damage from passive/charges) = 2851 x 3.25 = 9265.75

so with a wand with 225 avg damage you would improve quite a bit as well. i tossed a 80% crit damage gem into the mix just to see something.

3209 * 3.45 = 11071.05 (if elemental is applied before, this is even catching up though.)
3378.5 * 3.45 = 11655.825 (if after)
2851 * 4.05 = 11546.55

so with just passives and a wand in mind your build is better... but once you you have gear my build scales better. (there are quite a few things you can find out there with crit damage. raw % physical damage is harder to come by.)
