If Piety was changed to a black woman would you be offended?

I wouldn't care but there are some that would complain just like this article about Santa.

I'm considered Caucasian/European and I wouldn't care... but others wow would.

Some malls have been doing this very thing for over 30 years, there was a little bit of uproar back then, but I haven't seen much since. There was more uproar this year over the mall Santa who told a child that Hillary was on his naughty list.

The question about Piety is different though because of cultural exposure and length of history involved. For those who associate Santa Claus and St Nicholas, there is a historical aspect, and from that perspective it would be like kids, 3 generations from now seeing Dr Martin Luther King Jr played by someone of a completely different race than he was.

The real question for future generations is what sort of shopping experience marketers will package around his holiday? Will Santa Martin be given a costume with T-shirts and slogans, or will Google or Microsoft dress him in their official logo colors? Will historians hundreds of years from now, say that Santa Martin was not really a marcher, but instead a blogger and flash mobber?

Then when someone is choosing a Mall Santa Martin for Civil Rightsmas and they pick an African American to portray him, instead of traditional Korean, will people be offended?

Looking through the lense of time and trying to guess what other people's experiences and expectations are is fraught with the danger of distortion and blatant assumption.

Wait. Piety is a woman?

She certainly isn't a snowflake, or she'd melt in her own beam of fire.
