something i really dont get about the challenge leagues
why does HC challenge league send you to standard? why not send you to softcore challenge league instead? that way you can continue your progress towards challenges easier on softcore if you want to
it makes 0 sense to die and then be plopped into normal softcore when there's a challenge league softcore running "Purity Ain't Free. The labyrinth of ascendency gotta be litterd with the blood of the faithful. Chitus HUSSEIN perandus is not my emperor. He is blasphemous gommunist and probably karui as well :DD. PURITY and FAITH not malachai and thaumaturgy ok. praise God" - High templar voll, circa 1333 Last bumped on Oct 28, 2016, 8:15:59 PM

Because it's hardcore.
Dying in hardcore sends you to standard. If dying in hardcore Essence only sent you to standard Essence it'd be like half the punishment. "Let those with infinite free time pave the road with their corpses." - reboticon

Be happy that your character ends up in standard where you still can play him and make use of your items. Other games of this genre straight up delete your character on death.

Another reason no one has mentioned is trade. You are allowed to trade from Essence standard to Essence HC. But not perm standard to Essence HC. So this way if you die with a bunch of expensive equipment you cant trade it back into HC.
Edit to include a link that explains the rule I am referring to. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/541124 Last edited by OldmanBlackdragon on Oct 28, 2016, 2:49:54 PM

Because dumping into ESC would be shitty for those of us that play in ESC. Hardcore temp leagues tend to have more favorable economic conditions, that could easily be intentionally abused to get rich in a SC temp league if the HC temp league characters ripped into it. (ie. get some wealth on EHC, make a new toon, load him up with stuff, rip to ESC, profit)

"Bizarre. Never knew this. Combined with the "die and go to standard instead of get deleted" mechanic ... PoE HC certainly has some "soft" aspects to it. (Not even trying to invite flames, but just saying: this is weird.) | |
It would defeat the purpose of choosing a league. Everyone would start in Hardcore because why not. If you die, you just move to a SC league exactly where you were at. That kind of sounds like a good idea to populate the HC league for awhile until more and more people start dieing. But that is kind of why atm.
