Yeah, well, maybe not directly, but indirectly those sweet P2W moneiz might make GGG lazy with improving the actual game. Why improve the game (= hard work), if you can invent easy ways to milk the chinese market instead.

If it turns out that the P2W chinese market will bring more or similar profits, then the quality of the international game will suffer for sure.

Total Bull.

If you think this then you should just walk away from the game now.

The Eastern and Western gaming cultures are 2 different things, the folks at GGG are intelligent enough to know that and what would happen if this sort of microtransaction was introduced on their servers.

GGG making more money can only benefit us in the long run as it gives them more funds for developing the game.
the penalty belongs to poe somehow... but it would be tempting...

You missed my point. I'm 100% sure such P2W features will never end up on the international servers, but the easy money GGG will be earning with P2W in China, might make them "lazy" in improving the core game - which is the same for both regions.

If some day the P2W china version brings similar or higher earnings to GGG than the international version, then the quality of the core game will start to suffer for sure or wont improve as much.

The way they earn this money will have an impact on their product quality too. P2W is easy money and for almost every frustrating issue in PoE, there is a P2W easy solution.

Example:

Some players are frustrated with the Lab and Asc points being gated behind it.

Hard solution: create alternative ascension methods that would satisfy a wider audience
Easy "solution": capitalize on the Lab frustration, by making Ascension points buy-able on the China version.

The first brings no guaranteed additinal money to GGG, the second does, therefore the existence of P2W China incentivizes GGG to not improve the Lab experience for those who hate it.

Indie company who has worked the last 9 (right?) years tirelessly to bring you a true gem of a game and continues to do so to this day, and this is how you repay them?

Says more about you than GGG, honestly. Disappointing.
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more.

'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league.
Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave.

You mean "this" like having a brain to form an argumented opinion? I don't have a religious attachemnt to GGG's supposed sainthood or this game mythical status, so, sorry for being blunt. :)

Whatever will happen in the future, it will be ok, I don't care that much. But don't pretend that GGG is so immaculate that those sweet P2W dorra' tickling in from China, won't have an influence on core design decisions...

there are games which you buy once for their effort to have it programmmed and for 3 or 4 patches they released to make it run reliabyly... they will charge you again for expansions.

so basically yes, every expansion should be rewarded with some support if the game is free and has no pay2win that makes you spend that money.

if there is no effort developer wise, a one time support is ok.
It depends on the business model. For this game, they focus on receiving support from the super fans. Only they need to support the game for it to succeed. In exchange, GGG only listens to and cares about the super fans. Other people can play the game for free, but in exchange the game is not designed with them in mind(other than to pressure them to buy stuff).
In the end, this game is Free to Play, which means it's perfectly OK to play it for Free. If it wasn't ok, then they would charge for it and it would be Pay to Play.

yes, that has been the case in closed beta where only few people played.

but after release, ggg massively nerfed the difficulty and substantially accelerated item progression to a point where they openly acknowledge that top players only need 2 days to beat the game.
that's hardly a move towards catering for the "die hard fans", it's a step to get the big crowd playing.
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
this is massive fearmongering over something that happens in every game that gets ported to chyna

it wont affect us at all
