[2.4] bleed exlosion block gladiator - breath of the council , shield charge earth quake

This build is a variation of the gladiator bleed explosion, use voidheart unique iron ring on top of gladiator ascendancy passive to apply bleed on hit 100% time (need higher bleed on hit roll with voidheart), weapon slot we choose breath of the council unique sceptre, this weapon has good phys dmg for its price, it has high local phys% so flat phys on other gear get amplified well also 10% radius is very much valuable. The other great benefit of being a gladiator is 100% spell block conversion from versatile combatant, you can easily get 50%+ dual block chance even shoot for max block/spell block if you want.

mechanism explained

bleed

bleed is a debuff, caused by physical damage hit, deals 10% dmg per second of the initial hit when the target stand still, and deals 60% per second of the initial hit if the target is moving.

With duelist area bleed related passives and also gladiator passives, we have 145% increased bleed dmg, 60% dmg increase against bleeding enemy and 40% increased dmg if we didn't take dmg from hit recently, which can either be not getting hit or blocking. All these damage boost can make your bleed dmg much much higher than the initial hit.

bleed explosion

The gladiator passive gratuitous violence can make enemy died with bleeding debuff to explode, deal 10% of their max life as physical dmg, this dmg can be boosted by phy dmg increased from talent, associated mod from jewels and gear(mostly jewels) and most important of all, the vulnerability curse, which can be considered triple booster for bleed explosion gladiator build

Another aspect of this explosion is that it's base on a semi-fixed value(fixed value for a certain monster), so it doesn't matter how hard you hit, harder the hit or heavier the bleed would only result in EARLIER explosion not harder explosion, that's another reason bleed is better.

vulnerability triple threat

The vulnerability curse can elevate this build's damage from three aspects

Monsters under curse take more physical dmg, this will make the initial hit harder.

Monsters under curse take more damage overtime, bleed not only is a dot also it's physical dmg.

Monsters under curse take more damage from other monsters' corpse explosion.

The initial hit, the bleeding and the explosion all three form your dmg output ability, and against different monsters the three has different strength.

a true bleed build

As I went thru the duelist build list, I found that most gladiator bleed build use lacerate or reave, which is kind of a shock, bleed and explosion are all secondary phys dmg base on your initial hit, and they don't stack, in this case your choice of skill is much much better with "ONE BIG HIT" type than small rapid hit skill like lacerate or reave, in those build bleed is only a small factor, also the explosion part is meh-ish with aoe active skill, which is really a shame and waste of those bleed passives. Sure you can rely on the initial hit for all purposes, but isn't other ascendancy classes like slayer of berserker better for that?

And for this exact reason this build I choose shield charge and earth quake, both hard hitting phys skill, you can spam FTW or kite with bleeding.

pros

1, crazy clear speed, and unlike most build these days claim to be fast but not really, this is a really really fast build because you kill while moving, no time wasting on standing still to use skill, shield charge a pack 1-3 times(aka spam shield charge), EQ once if they are really tanky, 1 second is all you need to move on to the next pack, leave bodies explode behind you.

2, easy to gear, even though voidheart is expensive, you can certainly use dirt cheap jack the axe to start the build before you can afford voidheart.

3,50% dual block and possibly max dual block is a great defense

4,Run and gun style for a block char is quite powerful, you go in, apply a big bleed then kite the target to death

5,doesn't struggle with links, 4L is all you need, even in very end game.

6,not picky with map mods, there're nasty combinations but you can ignore map mod mostly

cons

1,bleed and explosion damage base on the initial physical hit, as called double dipping, at the same time your damage would take double reduction from associated map mods, like hexproof, enfeeble and monster phys reduction, if you happen to get all three(or two high value ones on t14+ map) then you might as well just give up that map, it's unplayable now.

2,certain bosses who don't move at all or can't be cursed can be hard to deal with

3,there're two guardians immune of bleeding, and I don't suppose this build can do shaper smoothly either.

4,for some reason this build is lagging quite a lot, I do play on an old computer but still important to know that.

5,mild hits means bad leeching, in extreme situation you have to manage your life flask quite tightly.

itemization

voidheart

source of half of your bleeding chance, we get 50% bleed on hit from gladiator, 8% from bloodletting cluster, so your voidheart should have more than 42% bleed chance, if you can't get that second best option is getting a 34% chance one, then invested one point in dirty techniques cluster, there's 8% bleed chance there.

this is the most expensive item of the build.

breath of the council

this weapon has a really high base dmg, really high local phys% so it scales flat phys really well, and 10% area radius increase, and also very cheap, a near max rolled one cost only 10-15 chaos even in early league. with 5% area radius from mace passives, you don't need to reach Templar's area nodes anymore.

flask

Only must have flask is lion's roar, not only it gives you awesome melee dmg boost, the knockback during flask effect is great also, because knockback count as moving, enemy getting knockback would take a lot of additional bleed dmg.

Rumi's flask is a good option, very easy max dual block that way.

rest of the gear

you want to get as much flast phys as possible from one ring slot, amulet, glove and your shield(haku master crafting), use the great old one's ward if you can manage enough resist. you really need to get as much int as possible on gear.

The bringer of rain is a good choice, but with that helmet you do have 6 less socket and a harder time to mana resist, choose at your own risk.

jewel mods

good mod to get
increased % dmg
increased % phys dmg (not with shield/mace ones, those won't apply on bleed or explosion)
life
increased %area dmg

then those "single dipping" mods

also you need one brute force solution unique jewel for sure, because we are using vulnerability curse which requires 155 int at lvl 20.

skill

shield charge

fixed 4L
shield charge + melee phys dmg + fortity + increased aoe

earthquake

earthquake will only be used with single target, or try to kill one bleeding monster out of a pack, there's no need for area increased

4L: earthquake + melee phys dmg + conc effect + reduced duration
5L: earthquake + melee phys dmg + conc effect + reduced duration + rapid decay
6L: earthquake + melee phyd dmg + conc effect + reduced duration + rapid decay + fortify
a 6L is not really necessary, 5L is well enough, my 5L deals 12.5k top end phys dmg, fortify maybe increased 10%, not really worth it.

aura

only blasphemy + vulnerability is must have, you can use arctic armour, grace, hatred, herald of ash if you want.

if possible, get a good glove with vulnerability on hit corruption, will help with hard boss fight a lot.

Please don't say stupid things like hatred HoA won't contribute, sure they don't contribute to bleed but it helps kill monster faster, faster the kill faster the explosion then faster the pack clear.

vaal lightning strike

vaal lightning strike is used to force enemy to be knockback(lion's roar flask effect), in order to enhance bleed damage on harder monsters mostly bosses.

other skill

flame golem for damage boost
reckoning gives you ability to kill passively, great help when you lag
CWDT combo with tempest shield, 3% additional block chance.

bandits and ascendancy

bandits
life + phys dmg + skill points = oak + oak + kill all
getting 1 more frenzy charge might also be good

ascendancy
Painforged + Versatile combatant for block
gratuitous violence + blood in the eyes for bleed.

example char

gear

All and all very budget gear, even though chest armour is a 6L, I only use 5l out of it. Also should use a rumi's flask instead of seething divine.

variations

1, facebreaker unarmed
pros: really really high shield charge dmg
smooth leveling
higher base hit dmg means good leech
cons: can't use earthquake, use warchief totem as single target
a tad harder to get resist.

2, varunastra sword
pros: varunastra count as all one hand weapon, so you can use viper strike, a different kind of single target, which might as well solve the guardian problem

cons: lower base dmg

just in case

Playing on a 7 yo laptop, I can't really make videos, in case of build of the week (shameless kappa), I give my full consent for GGG to log in this account at anytime without notice, just remember to duplicate some exalts when you done.
