Trickster Scion without ES

Hey, just wondering if using the Trickster ascendant without energy shield is like having 20% increased damage all the time, or should I get at least one piece of gear with ES?
In case your unfamiliar it reads something like: "20% more chance to Evade while on full Energy Shield, 20% increased Damage while not on full Energy Shield" I'm thinking of taking this over Occultist for my SSF Caustic Arrow build, so if you have an opinion on that... that's alright too. :) Thank you. I think 0/0 is not considered full or empty. It's not taken into consideration at all. If you want an always on kind of thing, I think you have to go with Eldritch Battery (ES covers mana) and then use Blood Magic support gem (or another way) to never have mana costs on skills so your ES is always full.

You should only get the node if you want the mana regen and/or recovery rate bonuses too.
