Atlas - are we being even more bottle-necked to meta only builds?

Edit: **this post is mainly aimed at Hardcore**

Quarls post made me realise core is now a gate-way progression map, even though he said he was being nerfed..it is still t15 Malachai. Previously maps like this where just something that are "there" if you felt like being suicidal, but now they are going to feel like an intrinsic part of PoE's story and you wont feel complete without challenging them.

This leads me to question the direction this game is going in terms of build diversity - PoE's absolute original defining characteristic.

Build diversity has already been stagnated a metric shit ton since the games earlier iterations and now with atlas coming out with gated map progressions, unless there are going to be some freaking insane balance changes to 90% of skills and defenses (that lie outside of stacking the biggest hp pool you can) then we are going to be forced - even harder - to play the 2-3 builds that are actually able to handle these new type of boss fights that have been coming out recently (let alone core Malachai)

Thoughts?

Edit: for example. How fucking excited are you going to be when the first person to kill the Shaper on Hardcore is a new absolutely amazing ......CI (wait for it)... bladefall (oo it's getting juicy.. poison (here we go!!) miner (Fuuuuck off)..

Well like I commented, the nerf should help a little bit, but it's no secret there's a barrier to entry if you want to do Core. The mechanics (and gear really) required compared to Abyss/Colosseum literally make them look like the Act 4 versions of the fight.

For the end game in general in Atlas, I'll be disappointed as fuck if an Aurabot can just walk in and trivialize everything.

A "barrier to entry" is massive understatement. Saying there is a barrier to entry implies that if you spend enough time maxing out your character in every possible way then whatever build you play will be able to take on this fight, which is not true. It's no secret there are very specific conditions you must meet to engage in these fights to the point of "you have an option of x build c build or y build - have fun!"
Real question is how many ppl who play this game avoid malachai for graphic reasons...the fps drop and the useless gfx porn make this fight really annoying

ugh. Butcher "meta" even more why don't you.
Malachai is a great example of ggg failing on their risk vs reward ideology. You have this monster of a boss that is unkillable for the vast majority of builds unless its a white map and he offers no drops other than what you'd find from a few tormented spirits. This just is not right.

The second example is the fact that it is faster and cheaper to run mind tier maps than it is to run high tier red maps.

what's hilarious are players who use him as benchmark even though they will never step in a t15 map more than once or twice in their entire poe career.

I think that horrible drop rates of high tier maps will be more progression defining, than boss fights. How many Core maps have you looted so far? I found two or three in 1.2 years :)

But you dont need to do the boss, to have a chance at T16 map drop? Or...?

All the clickbaiters that leveld their "top tier" guided builds in gorges?

Anyone who think core malachai is a meaningful benchmark for a build.
