Someone has played the new Doom?

The single player campaign is the most metal thing I've played in a while.

To put it simple, it preserves the frenzied shooting from the first two games, but it ups the difficulty while you can use melee finishing moves to obtain recovery items (so you are incentivized to be at closed range and to keep killing stuff constantly rather than hide) or ammo (if you use the chainsaw, spending some fuel). It has excellent FPS platforming and exploration, vaguely comparable to Metroid Prime (!), and a spectacular weapon upgrade system. The gore is absurd, but holy shit I enjoyed it.

And hear this!

The bad side is the multiplayer (nothing special) and the level editor (very limited, it may be improved). Also, the campaign feels short (but that may be because it's so addictive).

Id has done it again.

The new DOOM is fantastic! While the story wasn't amazing, the gameplay was so good. Played it nonstop until I unlocked the platinum trophy on the PS4.
Yeah, the single player campaign is easily the best thing I've played in years. 10/10

I really wish more game developers these days remembered that they're not making movies and that this is what really matters.

Yes, David Cage, even you. Especially you.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

I Love DOOM... ive only played through it twice, but i think the main reason why i love it, is the soundtrack... it honestly fits the theme of literally fucking hell.

Doom nailed a lot of things. However it didn't entirely capture what I wanted from a Doom reboot. I know, I can never be happy.

It had too many Monster Boxes. At times I felt I was playing Pain Killer instead. Walk into a room, get locked in, monsters teleport in, kill them, leave. There was never a threat of stray monsters getting me later, because I couldn't leave until I knew they were dead. I would have enjoyed more wandering demons.

The levels also; while way more sprawling than I expected, were still surprisingly linear. I did still enjoy them though. Quite a few secrets to find.

Also, the real killer for me was mostly just that the game was really really easy. Even on the harder settings, the monsters just aren't a threat at all. I think it comes from the new vertical movement of the Doom Guy. You are never at a risk of being boxed in by monsters like in the original because you can just double jump over them. You also never had to worry about resource management. It was super easy to be fully stocked on ammo at all times.

All of that said, I still enjoyed the game. It can't beat the original in my heart but for a game released in 2016? It was very good and very refreshing. I look forward to more. Give me a Doom 2 version with some of the changes above and I'll happily play it endlessly.

There is some text for those lore obsessed humans out there. The game respects the B-movie roots that Doom 1 and 2 have (there is a subtle layer of ridiculousness to all). I'd say it has a story, but it's optional and stupid, and I love it.

The monster box must be a technical limitation, so I can't really blame them. If Id can't make something better at that aspect, it's probably impossible.

The levels are linear, sure, but for me the main sin is that after mission 8, I think, the game has one way paths that fuck up exploration (I'm still somewhat upset about that).

About being easy...well, you must have skills. Playing it in Ultraviolence kills me from time to time. The game is less about resource management and more about not dying to avoidable damage spikes (but sometimes the management is there, at least for less skillful people like me).

I want a Hell on Earth like expansion for the game in the future, but for now there is multiplayer DLCs.

I don't. Fuckin Doom2... I hate the level design so much... garblegarble

In all seriousness, I think a Hell on earth type expansion would be kinda boring. We already have a half a million "zombies-in-post-apocalyptic-city" games.

This would be demons in a city on flames.

Honestly, give shiny weapons, new demons and non linear levels, and I'll love it, :P
