HOW do you deal with volatile monster mod as melee?

AFAIK you can't block/evade it, there is no delay so you can't run away...

As a melee I was forced to equipped a wand on a weapon swap with power siphon and finish them from a distance.... but that's just a gimmick solution in my opinion

Don't play melee.
In comparison melee sucks at everything in this game. Probably not what you want to hear but this is fact for years. Stay as far away from everything as possible.

Poster above me is what you should do. It is the only way to combat a whole host of issues.

Lots of life and regen. Flasks. Using poison and letting the degen kill it while you EQ other mobs
life pool doesn't really matter since this mod can spawn on something like a stone golem with extra damage... one shot imminent

yeah my build doesn't really use degen so that's kinda out...

i guess i will level some ranged char now... or stick with that wand lol
You can use sunder as a melee player to kill it from a distance. Or an ancestral totem.

You should probably have some sort of totem in a 4L anyway as a melee player to deal with other things you want to kill at a distance, like endless hazards in uber lab, proximity shield snakes that like to run away, Izaro's helper add things, anything you need to kite, etc... Also it helps with single-target dps and drawing aggro, and the ancestor totems give you a decent buff too.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

To deal with volatile, let's look at what it does -

"Volatile Flame/Ice/Storm blood 2 Explodes upon death, dealing some (percentage of hit damage?) damage of the relevant elemental type in a small area of effect. It has also been speculated that the value used is a percentage of maximum life."

So, if you have flasks with you for each resistance type, using that flask will reduce the incoming damage and enable the melee to continue as long as other relevant considerations exist:

1. Enough mitigation to deal with other monsters attacking at the time of the explosion.

2. destroying all the normal / magic mobs around the volatile rare before finishing it off.

I've found I can avoid death with melee most of the time from those two considerations. If I die, it's because I'm not paying attention, or panic and press the wrong potion.

The ancestral totems are very useful for dealing with these.
Even if it's unlinked you can use it to finish a volatile off.
The proper way to play PoE is to offscreen everything, been since beta.
