Lab is impossible for someone

Your laptop refuse to work cause you want to play lab.
TURN OFF V SYNC. Make sure it is disabled from your Nvidia control panel as well. Just make sure that V Sync is disabled.

Display driver problems happen to me sometimes. Screen starts to flicker black or in triangle shards. Game still runs alright, but I can't see anything. Allows me to clear the screen and move to a save area by memory and sound alone. Scary.

To fix that, I have to alt-tab to the desktop, go into settings, change the resolution and as soon as the preview is setting a new resolution, the driver restarts and the game works fine again.

No idea exactly what is causing it, though it may have to do with conflicts from other programs running in the background. Might even be a conflict with the steam overlay and/or firefox/flash.

I haven't found a way to reliably reproduce that so other than the workaround I have nothing.

That sounds like a faulty video card.

When I bought my pc I got 2 GTX480's in SLI and it ran great for about 3 years. Then one day when a new driver came out it crashed right away on the desktop even with a similar kind of flickering artifacts on screen. Downgrading the driver made it work fine.

So I stayed on that driver. Each time a new driver came out I tried it but each one would cause the same problem. I hung back with the only stable one for me as 6 new versions came out over the next 2 years.

Then, when I installed Witcher 3, it wouldn't run. It insisted that I had to upgrade my video driver. I did the upgrade, but removed one of my 2 cards as someone on the NVIDIA forums suggested it could be a problem with 1 of my 2 cards.

Sure enough that was it. With one of the cards installed it ran fine on the latest driver. With the other, instant crash. And yet with the old driver (2 years old) the bad card ran fine.

So there's something for the OP to consider.
OK..
I now see that my GPU inside is a bit burnt...
I have asked a guy who works in our department (an IT guy) to have a look at my laptop.
No wonder this happened suddenly....and none of the solutions you guys proposed worked.

It's all my fault.. I haven't cleaned the fan area for 3 years and almost everything inside my laptop was overheated every time I played games or used it for heavy duties.

When POE was turned on the highest temperature were
CPU 94oC
Motherboard 93oC
GPU 98oC

I mean I might have cooked something on top of my laptop...
now I have to trash 2 year old $1900 laptop....

Well I will be getting another one soon but want to ask you guys
what the best configuration would be for playing games and doing everyday work.

This is what I had before so I might need to upgrade some parts (especially colling part) but want to keep rather same configuration.

Sorry to hear that nothing helped.

for your upgrade question :

1. Get rid of BullGuard (there are a lot of very good free solutions)

Take the saved money and

2. Try to get a Nvidia 970M with atleast 3GB GDDR5 Video Ram

And maybe get the new i7 6300QM. Stay with 2 hardrives one SSD for OS and Software and

a big HDD for the data. 16GB of Ram are also enough, but the more the better.

But when your real problem is heat, you really want something like this:

GPU is burnt then its from using MSI after burner. You probably fried part of your card. Imo, you shouldnt overclock laptops its a disaster waiting to happen in that small enclosed space with little air flow.

94c is definitely the boiling point on a laptop, most likely caused some hardware damage at that temperature. At 94c youre running at just over 200 degrees Fahrenheit, you could basically cook something on it.

Yeah, definitely a good investment if you plan to overclock. The heat here definitely bit him.
