Need your opinion (or your math)

Assuming a character is dealing:
1.5k-3k physical damage 6k-11k cold damage with an attack using 5 links and tool-tipping 52.5k For that 6th link, which gem would potentially maximize true DPS total, using these options: Cold Penetration - 37% cold penetration Slower Projectiles - 30% MORE proj. damage With slower projectiles I'm tool-tipping 68.6k With Cold Penetration I'm tool-tipping 53.1k I do understand that tool-tip DPS calculations are not always accurate and are not inclusive to things like penetration. " cold penetration is better and i think every cold skill should use it,and slower projectiles may be bad if the skill ur using have a set duration (like freezing pulse)it would reduce the skill range Last edited by marcos459 on May 22, 2016, 2:12:58 AM

Youd have to tell us the skill to be honest, im assuming frostblade or something with 25% additional conversion or something with Hrimnor gloves or something ?
Harvest sucks! But look at my decked out gear two weeks in!

real dps with pen will depend on mob resists
if mobs are capped, they will have 38 resists, so about 200% more dps if mobs have 30 resists, you will do 53% more dps if mobs have zero resist, you will do 37% more dps if mobs have -30 resist, you will do 28% more dps the more resists the mob has, the better your actual dps multiplier in the case of your skill, cold pen is a clear winner. yes, slower proj will benefit both the phys part and cold part. BUT you will benefit from cold pen when it matters most (resistant mobs). plus, slower projectile will make the ballista shoot much slower moving arrows (been there, done that lol) whereas cold pen doesnt have any downside to it Last edited by grepman on May 23, 2016, 2:23:22 AM

In PvP, I assume, cold pen would also be a the clear winner, as most players should have cap resists? |
