Crown of the Pale King better than Aegis Aurora? Video's inside
Yeah but unlike Aegis your life gain on block varies because of the reflect damage (80 - 390 per block) :\
Also there is the price of using 3 specific uniques rather than just 1, which makes gearing a lot harder seeing as the shield has no resists and neither does the helm and amulet. And last but not least, the damage reflected is physical, monster armor and +x% monster physical damage reduction / endurance charges will all diminish your life gain on block. If you could properly scale the reflect damage, then it would be really a fun unique. Jungle Valley AFK
https://youtu.be/QeAYB5FUN3I Preliminary Summarization: Scaling: Crown - does not scale Aegis - scales better above ~10k Armour Damage leeched back Crown - varying between 72 - 390 Max Aegis - allways 2% of Armour flat, for example 230 at 11550 Armour Item Slots needed: Crown - 3 Aegis - 1 or 2 (Anvil!) Skill Point Requirement: Crown - 0 Aegis - 0 - ? depends on Gear maybe some for Armour + Energy Shield Item Requirements: Crown - good Life + good Resists + Armour ( 1-2 Item Slots less !) Aegis - Life + Resists + high Armour + medium Energy Shield Small Hits: Crown - works good Aegis - works good Big Hits: Crown - Fills up completly (but maybe slower) Aegis - Fills only up Energy Shield (but maybe faster) Chaos Damage: Crown - works Aegis - does not work (exception: CI ?) Cost: Crown : Low-Medium (on Perandus) high (on Standard) Aegis : high Gems : Crown : nothing ? Aegis : can use Melee Damage on Full Life for More Damage Ascendancy Class : Crown : only Gladiator Aegis : varible, more possibilities Missed something / something wrong ? correct me. " If you're running aegis you're running an armor build, average 10k armor. 10k armor mitigates most hits to the point where short of a crit+added damage+??? on a rare, nothing is gonna scratch you more than 500 per hit. Practically everyone running aegis takes advantage of melee damage on full life. Anvil also returns hp on block, so your hp gets topped up. And then you can just flask/leech or whatever else to fill your hp. We assume 78% block, so even against something that can potentially do 2k damage to you, you're gonna block 3/4 hits on average, even more if you have a swarm of small enemies doing scratch damage to you. |

Ok, added it to the summaritzation :-) | |
I actually think both are worse then lionseye or any +1k armor shield generally.
The amount of extra armor you can get taking shield defense nodes and a lionseye. Aegis imo is better because it works with ES based builds. Main problem I have with crown is your giving up your helm slot. My other issue with it is life on hit reckoning does almost the same thing. |

It's not a bad alternative but there is a reason it is called the poor man's aegis :)
Everyone pretty much hit the nail on the head here. -streaky leech on block (ranges instead of flat 2% everytime) -forced into more unique items -can't scale reflect damage -can scale leech on block with aegis (grace, granite flasks, jade flask w/ IR) Prophecy @ WizKid - 94 BV Pathfinder

With a supreme spiked shield + leo mod you could get a higher average block damage with less variance, and roll some resists on it. Downside is less base block and the implicit probably doesn't apply to spellblock, but the block chance can be augmented with Advancing Fortress.

Wrong, totally wrong.
Look carefully. On Melee Block. thousand teeth temu reflects on block. Btw i dont know if it works for spells , it specifically says "attackers" and spell aren't attacks. I will never be good but always I try to improve.

" Judging from the video where the guy was afk-ing Temple Piety, it probably works unless I'm missing something. I suppose it's just another case of ambiguous wording. The Wheel of Nerfs turns, and builds come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the build that gave it birth comes again. I tested it with Residence Dominus Ranged Attack:
https://youtu.be/szFJ1t1Fwl4 2 extra Projectiles, 18% ele. Reflect and also only with Temu equipped on a single Galvanic Ribbon in Solaris Temple. It seems to work, if i dont oversee something. |
