Question regarding RF.

Can someone please tell me what are the pros and cons between a marauder directly using rf and rf on totem?

No matter how I think about it, it seems like the chieftain rf totem will always be better than any regular rf build.

The chieftain rf totem can linked to more support gems such as elemental focus, less duration and rapid decay. It also requires less funding. Not to mention, the totem itself is completely immune to fire damage.

So can someone please tell me the benefit / advantage of regular rf users? (please don't tell me regular rf users are more tanky, because chieftains can use the same gears and become just as tanky as regular rf users.)
