May be a dumb question, but the rolls on the Mjolner don't matter at all, right? We're doing next to no physical or lightning damage with the weapon itself.

Also, why not Oak in normal?

Oak is ok. Build will work as fine but one lvl later.

Why is this build based on fire damage (molten strike) and not lightning? Mjolner gives extra lightning damage and also chain, but molten strike does not change, so wtf?

Like srsly? You're 4 years in this game and dont know how Mjolner works? Huh...

Mjolner has a percentage chance to automatically trigger socketed ligtning spells on hit. This is 50% with legacy version and 30% with new Mjolner. It triggers spells on hit. Doesnt matter which skill u use, its best to use skills with as much hits/s as possible. This is why Molten Strike is used to facetank bosses in 99% of Mjolner builds.

You're generating power charges per hit aswell with Romiras Banquet. Hit->Power Charge->Discharge->Hit and so on. But because this build (and 99% of other Mjolner builds) uses Volls Devotion - every power charge lost (consumed by Discharge triggered by your Mjolner) is endurance charge gained that will be ready for the next Discharge blast. But another but - because of Juggernaut's Unrelenting passive "If you would gain Endurance Charges, you instead gain up to your maximum number of Endurance Charges". This means that you'll have max number of endurance charges ready for your next Discharge. Discharge does fire dmg per endurance charge and lightning dmg per power charge. With this build you'll 99% of the time have 2-3 power charges and 9 endurance charges. Discharge, composed mostly of endurance charges is the only dmg source for this build and this why its fire based. Your molten strike / whatever else skill does nothing - its only for charge generation and triggering spells socketed in Mjolner.

Because the build does 0.1% of its damage with its direct attack, and 99.9% through the spells fired off from Mjolner... it's not rocket science.
Level 78 now, some thoughts I've had about this build.

1) Do you ever feel like the ridiculous number of uniques you're using makes the build weaker? Of the 7 required uniques, only Voll's and Kingsguard have life. Obviously most of them are mandatory, but it feels there could be other head or glove choices to increase the build's Life total. 4-5k feels low these days.

2) Couldn't the Blood Magic links be eliminated if you had a lvl 3 or lvl 4 Enlighten?

3) Is Molten Strike - GMP really the best single target? I understand that each projectile can count as a "hit", but most of them tend to miss everything anyway. It feels a little clunky.

4) I was using Shield Charge - FA - Fortify - Inc AoE for a while, and it feels really sad to give that AoE gem up now that I can actually run all 3 auras and need Blood Magic. This ties in to point 2 and 3 - I kinda want to put Shield Charge in the 5-link, but I can't, because Molten Strike is lame and won't fit in a 4-link.

5) Elemental Equilibrium is very tempting. We could get "adds cold to attacks" on our rare ring and boost our damage significantly. The pathing to EE is made entirely of Int and Str nodes, too. You could replace the 2 Int nodes + Jewel by Witch with the 2 Int nodes + Jewel going south from EO to EE. That would leave you only 2 Int nodes from EE, which would be a pretty huge damage boost.

1) Its rather 5-6k on ehp pool. Belt, boots, jevels are good source of hp. Also you have tons of str as a Mjolner character for nice flat hp bonus. I agree that ~5k feels low in 2.3 but not when you have 90%+ max resistances and phys dmg mitigation and CREAZY ammount of heal/s. If something doesnt one shot you - its dead. The only two bosses that did one shotted me was T14 Palace dominus with his smach, and T15 Core Malachai also with his smash. And I only didnt try Uber. So yeah, better stick to those 6 (not 7) uniques.

2) Could be if you have jevels with mana on hit.

3) Currently yes.

4) See 2)

5) Not really, at least not with double Discharge setup and Molten Strike, which is best for non-legacy Mjolner. If both Discharges are rolled to triggerd, first one will do dmg with -50%/+25% (light/fire) because of cold dmg from ring + fire dmg from molten. After that it will mark the target with +25% fire/light for secound Discharge. More than that when Shield Charge is considered vs packs, mobs outside of Shied Charge AOE will be only affected by Discharge, having +25%/+25% all the time.


BTW: lvl 78 is waaaaaay to low to have this build on its full potential. Lvl it up to 88-90 - than you'll see.

Quick question, on repentance vs death door boots.

Which would you use if you could use just one, due to required gear stats. Not sure how much dps difference there would be. If very similar I would go boots... but I am not an expert, first time doing a mjolner build or a build stacking endurance charges.
you should try use Ancestral Protector on boss fights. the more AS is just insane :)
