[2.2] In depth poison trapper guide, Uber viable.

Welcome,

The idea behind this build comes from theshadedone, he came up with the "bino southbound prolif combo" concept back when Poison gem got released.

This build is focused on being cheap and effective with a great scaling (from garbage gear day 1 atziri viable to uber viable once geared and leveled up) : perfect for a temp league or a long race environment.

Ascendency nerfs ?

Quite the opposite!

They fixed the Bino regen so we don't get absurd infinite regen writhing jar setups and they nerfed Poison a little bit.

However, the Saboteur ascendency combined with Cluster traps is an insane damage boost :

Cluster traps itself gives us a better trap layout AND an additional trap thrown. (and can be thrown over cliffs!!)
Saboteur's Chain reaction makes it so every time a single mob/boss triggers a trap, every other traps around will detonate, which means we are getting guaranteed insane overlap damage
Oh yeah and they buffed trap nodes, we can use frenzy charges now.

So basically we lose Bino regen (then again it's still there, just not 30k regen anymore :D) and we get a better trap to work with, and a lot more damage.

____________________________________________________________________________

Pros :
- CHEAP : I'm talking self found viable. (except for the Bino part maybe)
- Ideal for a new league because of the great scaling it offers. Kinda like a caustic arrow character but with a cheaper start.
- Can do all the content this game has to offer (including HLD and Uber Atziri)
- Can run every map mods (there's a difference between "can" and "comfortable" though)
- Immune to reflect.
- Suited for both hardcore and softcore.
- Not that expensive to min max

Cons :
- There's a clearspeed cap because of the way traps work (it takes an amount of time for the traps to leave your hands and end up detonating under a mob)
- Evasion is cancer, and can lead to one shots until you get a coil.
- It's not good for party play (depending on what kind of build you're partying with)

Skill gems and links

All gems are in priority order (meaning the 4th gem is your 4th link)

Blade fall (main trap) :

-Blade fall
-Trap
-Cluster trap
-Poison (Remove poison if you do not have Bino)
-Concentrated effect
-Trap and mine damage

Additional options : Void manipulation / Item rarity / Controlled destruction

Bear trap (secondary trap, in +1 gems 4L)

-Bear trap
-Poison
-Trap and mine damage
-Empower (even a lvl 2 will do)

Bear trap (secondary trap, in jaws of agony)

-Poison
-Trap and mine damage
-Void manipulation / Added chaos / Empower / Rapid Decay

Vaal lightning trap (op trap)

-Vaal lightning trap
-Increased duration

This is mostly for boss killing. Vaal lightning trap does not do any damage on its own, however it gives us perma-shock as long as the target is standing on the shocked ground.
Example : You get 3 charges, Atziri has 3 split phases. Enjoy one shotting every split phase.

War Cry

-Enduring cry / Rallying cry
-Increased duration

Rallying cry is the convenient one (mana regen) enduring cry is the survivability one (life regen, endu charges, stronger cwdt)

Movement skill :

-Whirling blades
-Faster attacks
-Fortify

Auras :

-Clarity lvl 20+
-Blasphemy vulnerability / Arctic armour (curse immune map) / Purity of X (ele weakness map, if you're not overcapped)

This is a trapper so you can pretty much run whatever you want here (Grace, purities...), feel free to dump clarity if you dont mind relying 100% on mana pot.

If you have a +1 curse ammmy you can use a double blasphemy setup (temp chains/vulnerability/enfeeble)

Don't run elemental auras (hatred, herald of ash) they will increase your tooltip but they won't double dip through vulnerability/poison. Inefficient tooltip increase.

Golem, pick one (OPTIONAL)

- Fire golem (damage)
- Stone golem (taunts)
- Chaos golem (phys dmg reduction)

I personally think Stone golem is the best choice.

Cast when damage taken (OPTIONAL)

We didn't need that before, it's mostly for porcupines (pretty much necessary if you don't have coil)
-Cast when damage taken
-Immortal call
-Increased duration

____________________________________________________________________________

GEAR : Multi budget versions based around a temp league

Body armour

Coil is simply best in slot for any build as long as you can chrome it in my opinion.
You won't need a 6link until Tier 13+ maps anyways. So use a 5L coil over a 6L rare with no hesitation, it's better, even more so if you play Hardcore.

Expensive : 6L Lightning Coil

Average : 5L Lightning coil, 6L Rare evasion

Cheap : Rare 5L with life and a res or two.

Weapon

Here you really only want a Bino. That should be your first priority in gearing.

Don't worry though, the build is definetly playable without Bino, remove your poison gem and save currency for Bino.

If you plan on farming Uber, having a dagger switch (preferably a Sai) with high spell damage + high attack speed + Leo mod is great. Simply because you don't need the prolif for Uber herself.

Helmet

Expensive : Multimoded redblade helmet -> 50+ life, multimod, resist 1, resist 2, evasion, redblade mod

Average : 700+ eva, 80+ life, double or triple res rare helmet

Cheap : 80+ life and double res rare helmet

Gloves

Here you want Southbounds, which are pretty much necessary for the build to work.
Southbound basically forces your poison DoT to last hit enemies, making sure your Bino can proliferate.
Thankfully these gloves are worthless, so try to get a perfect roll (cold res / life%)

It's also a good idea to get your +1 gems on these gloves. (that's the more expensive option)

Shield

So as a shield you have two options :

1) I have a +1 gems setup -> Rare shield with tons of evasion, 90+life, resists, block...
2) I dont have a +1 gems setup -> Jaws of agony with nice rolls if possible (Life>trap damage>phys damage)

For Uber having a switch with a perf roll Jaws is very good. (More damage, you don't need resists if you're overcapped for ele weakness maps anyway)

Boots

Since we use whirling blades movement speed is not that important on there. Boots with triple res life should not be expensive.

However Atziri's step is very good with our build, and easy to color for bear trap. So ideally you want +1 gems steps.

Belt

Rich : Rustic sash or leather belt with high triple res (or double res + trap damage mastermod) + high life

Cheap/Average : The most life/resists you can afford

Jewelry

Fill your resists, your stats (str/int) here.
Try to get 70+ life on each item.
Luxury stats : Mana regen, spell damage

Skill tree, jewels

Here's your priority order :

6% life > trap damage > stats/resists you might need> Dot damage ~= Phys damage > Spell damage

Map mods & you

This section is mostly aimed at red maps as the mods in yellow maps or lower don't really matter.

Minus max : This is one of the scary mods, whenever you run a minus max map be sure to have a resistance flask.
For example : minus max Academy you should wear a topaz flask because of all the dischargers, for Abyss you should wear a Ruby flask, etc..
Try to avoid doing multiple damage mods + minus max on bosses like Palace Dominus.

Temporal chains : A pretty annoying mod, but you can't really reroll it because it gives packsize, so it's bad but it's actually good... if you know what I mean. Just be very careful against bosses where you need your full mobility : Village ruin comes to mind, getting dunked by the charge of the dog because your character was slowed down too hard for you to react is pretty lame.

Phys monster reduction + Enfeeble (+curse immune) : Okay this is annoying, but not dangerous. You shouldnt reroll it by any means, but similar to temp chains it will be much slower for you to clear the map.

Disaster combo, extra cold + extra fire + extra light + crit + minus max : So this mostly depends on the boss, if you're doing Shipyard for instance it's free. If you're doing Colosseum not so much. There's no real solution here, you just have to be paranoid and assume that everything could potentially kill you, play extra safe.

Curse immune : Turn off your blasphemy and run Arctic armour. Not a scary mod by any means. If you're playing with a multicurser support you might wanna reroll the map though.
This mod is only a problem if you're heavily relying on double blasphemy tempchains+enfeeble and you do not have a coil.

Elemental weakness : If you are not overcapped, just run a purity of elements. Enjoy your free packsize.

Slow regen : It's only a nuisance really, we don't have a high HP regen, even with Bino regen up. That means this is mostly a pain in the butt manawise.
The solution here is to have an instant mana flask, because non-instant mana flasks will be heavily hampered.

No regen : Basically the same as slow regen, except that using a non-instant mana flask would be better here because the regen rate won't be slowed down.

Blood magic : Remove your mana pot and turn off your auras. Really enjoyable mod actually, because you get to spam all the spells without having to think about using your mana potion where you would normally.

Flasks

Here are the flasks I use right now :

Swap around flasks depending on the map you're running / boss you're killing.
Stibnite is OP, that flask should be in your setup 90% of the time.

That flask can be useful against isolated bosses, so you can force a prolif. I'm not using it though, it's just simpler to use an Atziri flask if you want more damage in my opinion.

You'd mostly want that for the mitigation, the damage boost is kinda useless on our build.
Right now I would use a Stibnite over a non legacy (temp league) taste of hate, probably even in standard actually.

Atziri and Uber in Hardcore

Hardcore normal Atziri can be done without changing anything to the build. I can do 100% safe Atziri runs even when fucking up Trio order
Just make sure you have enough health to survive fuck-ups (5k5+) and are using relevant flasks for each encounter.
If you fuck up trio and flame striker is the last boss alive, don't feel bad about ditching the run -> an atziri flask is not worth your character.
However it shouldnt even come to that if you're geared well enough, as I said Atziri is faceroll for me.

I made this build for maps originally, but once I saw how easy Uber was with it in softcore I figured it would be a nice Uber killer.
For Uber in hardcore I would suggest changing the build a little bit. I can do deathless Uber but I occasionally die. To make it 100% safe I think you should abuse blasphemy temporal chains with inc curse effectiveness.
So yes, it is possible, however you need to modify the build a fair bit to make it work.

Perandus character, lvl 95

Talisman character, lvl 94

Alright, guide is not completely finished (I will add more information later) but that should be good enough for now.

No uber video yet, but that should come in the next few days. (As well as double kaoms, double daresso t15 if I manage to get my hands on the maps)
I assume this is HC viable? Also adding a leveling progression tree/skill gems might be a good idea.
Added twinned colosseum video, I'll add a Uber run tonight.

Thanks for the build. I've been enjoying it quite a bit. It comes together once you can hook up Cluster Traps. I don't have the Bino's or a 5l yet, but I'm starting to map with decent clear speed, and the single target is really impressive.
Hi i'm doing your build and i'm really enjoying it,i wanted to ask what you think about using a carcass jack instead of coil, and why you have 2 bear trap setups.
The build is going pretty good , only cons is mana, i have to always pot since i run grace + vulnerability and i dont have space for clarity

Hey!

I'm not running two bear trap setups, only one (as you can see in my gear linked in the 2nd post).

I'm just showing the different bear trap setups you can have in the guide :
1) with a +1 gems 4L
2) simply with a jaws of agony.

I'll reformat it a bit.

I'll also try to cover mana more in-depth, there might be a few changes on the tree to make if you want to completely ditch clarity. I'll try to cover it soon. (also some enlighten shenanigans)

For the carcass jack I wouldnt recommend it honnestly. Your bino basically does all the extra aoe you'd need through prolif. There is really no point of having more AoE.
To give you an idea, when I went from bladefall 20/0 to bladefall 21/20, I definetly felt the big damage increase of the additional level but I couldnt feel any difference AoE wise, which is what the quality does. Also, carcass' increased AoE won't increase bino's prolif aoe.
If you don't want to run coil because its too expensive or you'd rather try something else (which is fine) you could try a 6L rare, belly of the beast, hyrri's ire (more dodge, more eva, more one shots \o/)

Now it's clear i will try to get soon the coil, i will wait for some changes about the mana problem, i was trying to think something about what auras to use , and grace for me is too important, and then blasfemy with curse of course, maybe enlighten help a bit , also i must have mana% regen in all my rings/ammy
