Totems use your stats. Minions don't. Both are affected by support gems though. Spell damage or not doesn't have anything to do with it.


Minions don't get your passives.

Passives that explicitly mention affecting your minions will have an effect on them.

Support gems supporting your minions will have an effect if possible (Multistrike works on melee attacking minions, GMP works on minions producing projectiles, etc).

It's pretty straight forward all in all I feel.
