Ascendancy Classes Discussion & Opinions

We don't know the whole story yet. We can't. They can't just toss these classes into the main game and have it be fun. It would be fun for about a week until we get bored with our new abilities, but the environment will have to catch up or the game will become far too easy to keep most of us interested.

So all this hype about the abilities is being generated out of context. We don't have that context yet. Wait for it.
From my point of view Ascendancy classes are an awsome idea which could benefit PoE greatly in build diversity if the following conditions are met:

- all Ascendancy classes have to feel unique and offer unique mechanics
- all Ascendancy classes have to be nearly equally strong (balanced)
- all Ascendancy classes must be able to enhance specific styles of gameplay
- all Ascendancy classes must give the player a benefit which he can't get otherwise

If those 4 conditions are met the expansion will be great. If only 1 class is over the top or 3 classes might outshine all other classes - the goal of more diversity won't be achieved and the over all experience of the new expansion would be pretty lackluster and boring. If non of the acendancy classes (if all of them get nerfed to the ground before release) have a impact to regular gameplay compared to the status quo, classes would be meaningless

It is a very difficult task to implement and balance those classes correctly - if the GGG Balance- and Design-Team succeeds, Ascandancy will be great; if they fail horribly many players will be disapointed and some of them could even quit the game.

There is a lot of pressure on GGG when it comes to this task - i wish them the best and hope they will succeed and get it right.
I disagree with hard niche/soft niche/general specialisation of classes, it may seem like that if you look purely at notable nodes, but take a look at smaller ones:

Each specialisation has 1 common property it gains no matter what it does. Each small node for Necromancer has +15% minion damage. Raider has +15% evasion. Slayer gets +14% 2-handed damage. This alone imo soft-niches (making words up ftw!) characters.

At the same time I can't think of single specialization that requires to use, or at least rely on these properties to be effective. There is always a handful of big nodes which can be creatively used to make OP bizarre builds.
Not a signature.

hi guys

So far i believe that thematically each class has correct sub-classes.
When the developers created the shadow they had in mind a more glass-cannon character that deals tons of damage quickly and i can perfectly agree with all his 3 classes like assasin (crit) saboteur (traps & mines ) and trickster (move speed & other survivability tools for quick gameplay). All 3 of them suit the shadow class very much in my view.

About the witch it is more difficult because we already got 2 The necromancer and the Elementalist.
Some people believe the 3rd one will be about chaos damage and curses which is very possible.
It could be about low life (my prediction) or even about something more specialized like wands!

All of them suit the witch nice so what are your predictions about witch last subclass?

I agree with the conditions u wrote about. The 3rd condition enhance specific styles of gameplay is the one i agree more as i cant agree that flasks are somehow mostly related to a pathfinder ranger since they are used by all players and all builds from lvl1 till lvl100.SO i cant see how this one is specific..

It is funny how our experiences govern what we see.

You look at shadow's trickster and see "move speed & other survivability tools for quick gameplay", and I daresay that many others see the same.

I look at shadow's trickster and see "best tank in the game", because I like CI-ES-ZO regeneration tanks and gaining 60% increased recovery of life, energy shield, and mana is a monstrous boost to already outrageous survivability.

(As an example, my current tank would, using its current decent but not great equipment and moved to a Shadow starting point which is trivial, taking Patient Keeper, Ghost Dance->Shade Form go from 2050 ES/s at all times to ~3700 ES/s regenerated whenever an enemy had died within the last 4 seconds, and I don't want to think about what Dy'Ness tank would reach.)
Scionic Flametank 3.2: The classic ES-CI-ZO-GR regeneration tank is back in business, stronger than ever before with 50-60% ES/s recovery during most fights due to creative use of regeneration, leech, and recovery mechanics

Hi Pi2rEpsilon

Yeah i love the Dy Ness tank and your incinerate build.

In fact it was the first build i decided to invest lots of currency in and i even bought the shavronne's ring.Yeah this class will help a lot but its almost the tankiest build in the game already..
I mean Dy'Ness had reached 4k regen :D
Funny idea... Scion class is just 6 Jewel Slots

Point 3 is practically impossible and already a failure if you've seen the latest 2.
