HI exiles. How do I fix insomnia?
Associate bed with sleep. Try not being in bed when you study, read, shitpost on your cellphone etc.
Only lay in bed when you're taking a nap or sleeping (or trying to). The bed really has to be associated with sleep only. If you're not falling asleep after 20-30 minutes, best thing to do is to get up and do something relaxing like reading for a few minutes. Again, gotta associate the bed with sleep. Try not to think about anything (easier said than done I know). If something comes to your mind, chase it. Focus on nothing. nam sayin'?
" I've read this too, except it was sleep and sex.
If you find yourself laying asleep for hours on end, getting frustrated with every minute that passes because now you only have three hours and 42 minutes until you have to wake up for work, get out of bed for a short while.
For 10-15 minutes walk around a little bit, drink a glass of water, get a breath of fresh air outside if the weather is mild. Then go back to bed. If you're still awake 20 minutes later, repeat.
+1 to exercise of any kind.
Physically exhausting yourself makes sleep easy and it's good for you on its own. Ideally do it before you have to sleep, but if you're tossing and turning, just leave the bedroom and go for a walk. Don't let yourself spin idly.
As someone whose had insomnia due to PTSD, i did 80 pushups, 120 situps, and i like, passed out on the 119th situp, so, if that helps, go right ahead :)

" Sleep Hygiene is part of the long term answer. Depending on how well or poorly you normally sleep when you do get to sleep, there could be some other factors involved that might need to be assessed. https://www.sleepassociation.org/patients-general-public/insomnia/sleep-hygiene-tips/ https://sleepfoundation.org/ask-the-expert/sleep-hygiene Melatonin works for some people, and for others it doesn't.
