Constant disconnection/freezing issue in maps.

The game is currently unplayable for me due to this issue and I was wondering if there is any way to fix it as I can not seem to find any information regarding this issue on my own. It has been ongoing for months now.

What is happening is that after I join a map the game works fine for a random period of time, then the game will freeze, the ping meter goes flat and I am locked in place. The client is still running and working fine but it acts like I have lost connection to the server but without actually disconnecting. It can sit like this for ten plus minutes sometimes before I get a disconnection message or very rarely the game reconnects and fasts forward. I can quit to login and the game works fine again but I can not quit to character selection as it has no effect.

I know it sounds like a connection issue but I have a great connection to the server (AU), I am connected by ethernet cable to my router and most telling of all, this only happens in maps. In the world map I can run any area mostly without issue (It does freeze but extremely rarely) but as soon as I run a map the freezing happens. If I disable lockstep the same issue happens but I am free to run around while everything else is frozen.

Things I have tried: Re-installing the client, connecting to a different router, playing on a different PC (This works fine)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really miss playing PoE, thanks.

Make sure your files aren't corrupted. Do a PackCheck (or if in Steam -> Right-Click Game -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Game Cache).

Try running GGPK defrag on your Content.ggpk. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/28060

It does sound like a connection issue. We have no idea what's causing it though, it's very unusual. Could you please run winMTR during the time you are playing and getting this trouble?
Do us a favor. Run a map and capture a MTR for us while you do so as that's where you are having your issues. Also, please let it run for at least 300-500 minimum as well.

Slight issue that can already be seen, though it isn't to concerning: ae6.br1.syd4.on.ii.net - 0 | 101 | 101 | 31 | 43 | 167 | 44

You're getting a little latency spike from that hop, but as I said, nothing to concerning.

Ok, Captured while I was mapping and had 3 freezes during the capture.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

I will run a pack check but as I stated I recently did a full reinstall as I thought it might be a client issue as my client install was from the first closed beta years ago but that did not resolve the issue.
I am having these same issues. I am not as technically advanced as most but hopefully I can understand what the resolution is. Thanks

Make your own thread. This is Techno's thread to get help in. Read the stickies and post what you are supposed to.

Techno,

There doesn't appear to be anything amiss in your MTR. Your average ping is good, and your worst spike is 100. There really isn't anything there to point to what your problem may be. Can you post up a DXdiag as well and place it in a spoiler tag? I don't think anything can be seen in there, but it might be useful info for the devs.

You said the freezes are random. Does it happen before coming across a lot of mobs or as a bunch of asests may be loaded all at once?

Edit: Just a couple more questions. Anyone else playing or doing anything on your network, like the wife or g/f streaming vids or anything? Have you put an exception in windows firewall for POE? Do you have an AV program that does real time scanning? (If so, turn that off)

Could also try switching into Predictive Mode in the UI Options (needs to be done from the log-in screen), and see if the freezes etc. persist. That'll help narrow it down to either connection issues or something else.
== Officially Retired 27/02/2019 ==

Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years.

Best of luck in the future!
My partner does also play games online at the same time without issues but even with only my pc connected to the network I still have issues.
In predictive mode I still get the same problem but instead of freezing in place I can still move around but the latency meter flattens out and all monsters stop moving/loading (no data from the server I would guess)
The freezes can happen at any time, even in a cleared map running over an area that I have been over it can drop out. It does not seem to be from loading assets as I have a slight delay loading from my ssd when things like exiles spawn but it has never frozen at that point. It also seems to require movement to freeze up. Standing still in a map for over an hour that has already caused the issue before and the connection was stable with no freezing. Also chat stops when the game freezes so it is definitely acting like the connection has been lost even though the issue is almost exclusive to mapping.

Yeah, I've got nothing else. Everything from your drivers for your Vid card to your MTR and anything in between looks good. There is nothing to indicate what the problem could be.

I am stumped. :/

You can try and email support. They will probably ask you for some of this information again. Someone on their end may be able to see something that we can't.

Edit: It could be something downstream from the servers as well, which is something WinMTR can't trace. It only takes a trace of your upstream traffic.
