How to know which gems are valuable

Hello everyone, I am still rather new, and I've heard that some gems are more valuable then others. My understanding is that non-reward gems are the most valuable, but how do I know which ones are reward and which ones aren't when I pick them up off the ground? Is there a list somewhere that will tell me?

Check on PoE wiki for quest rewards, it will tell you which gems you get from each quest.

Alright so it appears I have a gem "Punishment" that isn't on the list of rewards. How can I figure out how much it's worth?

" Post in trade chat that you want to sell it, and see what someone will offer you. That's what it's worth. That's the point of this barter system. There is no set intrinsic value to anything. It's constantly changing and adapting to player's needs and what they have. Everything is worth precisely what someone is willing to pay you for it. |

Really the biggest gems to watch out for are Chain, Elemental hit, and elemental weakness and then quality gems. Thoes are generally worth more than the average and some more experienced players will gladly take advantage of you to get ahold of them.

In my opinion all gems are potentially valuable, save a few act 1 gems you get right away. POE is a big game of trends which means one week x build is super popular and needs specific gems, or one day someone like kripp does a weird build and that shitty gem you couldn't give away before is worth alot more.
