What you mean D3 characters look better?

"
D3 at max still looks like slightly suped-up WC3 to me...

The whole 'mtx' thing is irrelevant, as noted: D3 you have to buy anyway, and probably for more than it takes to look halfway decent in PoE (skin transfers alone can get you there).

I've spent far more on POE than D3 and as of the last major update for both can safely say D3 offers far more vanity content mix and match with a higher quality product in terms of meshes (edited textures out as POE actually has more detailed textures) for far less the price (considering vanity as a major factor for any given player).

I gave a show of appreciation to GGG for the enjoyment I had with the Awakening and decided I'd get me some visual love on screen.I was mostly playing summoner type witch,so decided to go with the necrotic set and various summon gem MTX etc etc etc.

Most shields suffered clipping at the shoulders of this MTX,the summon MTX have this weird effect of a slight game freeze upon first cast in game session, akin to loading asset issues.Alternatively in D3 I can spend an hour mixing and matching without issues of clipping or gameplay issues when using cosmetic changes.

Take into consideration I have 12 actively played characters in D3 who are highly customizable with little to no effort in game and had barely half that many actively played characters for POE in Awakening which I would have to throw far more cash at the MTX shop for even a portion of the visual options across all characters that D3 offers me at a flat price.

Art style aside as that's a personal preference.I came to the conclusion that if I throw any more money at GGG,then I'll be getting some stash tabs and not MTX. lol

=P

EDIT: I suppose I can only show you what I see on my screen

Shield user with two buffs

POE

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=509058759 note the clipping

Diablo 3

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=509062017 no clipping (sorry about the brightness of screenshot, forgot to change contrast after doing dark Grift ... my eyes)

Summoner with minions

POE

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=509065191 yes that's a Voll's the Guardian is wearing lol

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=509068995

Diablo 3

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=509067542

What makes Diablo 3 so much more interesting vanity wise is the variety of options available to each and every character with very little effort and all pre-paid for.

So many ugly features with this pic I don't even know where to start. For one, how is it possible a game only has 1 armour model for both male and female characters??

It's armour. It's not a fashion statement. Armour is made to protect, not to look good.

Also, pretty sure armour would look roughly the same on a woman as it would a man, in real world standards.

EDIT: However, I like the aesthetics of both games, when taken on their own merits.

OP, yes I'm sure your char has no MTX items right? /facepalm
Anyone wanna try looking "good" in this game without MTX? Be my guest. Without MTX this game looks worse than Super Mario 64 from 1999. Top contender for ugliest game in terms of equipment aesthetics in the entire decade.

Without skin transfers or proper MTX, characters in this game tend to look horrible, and this picture is a prime example.

Before finally buying some points, I actually only used items that "look good": As an example, I avoided Armor/ES chests on poe.trade that didn't have "conquest chainmail" or "loricated ringmail" appearance (those two are the only ones among this item class that look ok on all classes).
I was playing with inferior gear just to make my char not look ugly.

However, D3's style is even more horrible. I hate this design.

Can somebody enlighten me about this:
Why is a "dark, gritty, bloody, gory, tormented, dirty" theme tied to the genre of ARPGs? Not too long ago Ive seen a video saying something like "one of the main points why this game is superior to D3 is having dismembered, crucfied or impaled bloody corpses hanging around".

I know some people have strange astethic taste, for example i know someone who hates everything unrealistic. Shooting lightning out of your hands? Nope, that person would never watch a movie featuring that. Even something like a four meter fall without injuring the character would cause disgust-like behaviour.

But thats the only person I know behaving like that. In this case a mass of people like this theme or wouldnt even touch a ARPG without this theme. But why?

I take it you haven't played d3 in a long time, if at all? Because you can make you barb look almost identical to that ideal picture of yours.

I know I can, but that doesn't change D3's overall item design:
Comically huge and heavy weapons and armor, impractical spikes and edges.
It's just too much of everything.

And I also don't like the cartoonish overstylized appearance of Blizzard games in general. I prefer it to be more "down to earth".

The first part is irrelevant as you can opt in or out of the comically huge weapons and armor, impractical spikes and edges with a five second trip to the enchantress (and a bit of gold).

The second part is relevant as there's not much you can do about changing the whole concept of the art style a developer chooses.

Is this about taste or about objectively measurable stuff? The one thing I dislike about D3 models is that the textures are really low res... it really looks like WoW models at times.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
